I'm Just Going to Leave This Here

personally, I hope that you can select the amps you want for a fee of $10 per amp. I'm afraid AX8 might be too expensive for me if all of the amps/effects are included with the AX8.

I hope that it's a one off purchase price with everything included... This is the unit I and i'm sure many have been waiting for since Fractal first launched the original Axe FX.
I was the first in Australia to own an Ultra, sold and upgraded to the Axe FX II but deep down, i always wished Fractal had launched a floor unit. I am so excited to see that it may actually come to fruition! I hope it doesn't take to long to hit the market...

I would gladly buy a few amp algorythms if there is something like 10 min trial to try them, but i wish to have all effects available right away. Hope effects will not be in-app purchase.
Highly agree with this. Almost no effect of the actual Axe Fx didn't get used since I own the Axe (excepted effectively like options indicated in post #562 of this thread), OTOH : from the +200 amps I only use about 10 models and from all CAB IR I use not more than 10 also.
Some kind of "test before buy" option would absolutely be a plus

I have the same issue with my car. it's got a top speed of 180kph but I hardly get over 80 in my intra city driving. It can also carry 5 people but usually it's only me in the car! The trunk is hardly ever full either. I don't even turn up the radio full blast.

Still, I appreciate & enjoy it & think that it was good value. Even though I don't always use it to it's maximum, it's good to know those capabilities are there when I do need them.

I understand, but I spend 3 hours a day in my car and need it for earning my salary and from time to time : the stereo goes up to 10, when I'm in a hurry the speed goes up to 180km/h (not too often...), and the trunk at regular intervals gets full when getting on the road with all family.
The day I don't need a car for a living and the kids are out of the house, I'll have with no doubt a smaller new one or a bigger 'second-hand' car. These arguments absolutely play a role in choosing.

That a "mid-class amateur guitarist" like me got to Axe Fx is just a miracle of having hit the good internet page at the good time when searching for a good alternative for my Digitech LE2101 and having the buck available at that time.
If AX8 amp floorboard would have existed then I quite probably would have opted for that. BTW This also could mean a potentiel impact on Axe Fx II sales, or a potential market as a "back-up" solution for those that have an Axe Fx II but won't get themselves a second one due to the pricing.

Minus expression pedal. I'm not sure why Fractal decided to not include an on-board expression pedal on the AX8 (especially if they already produce one they could easily be included in the package). If the AX8 is meant as an all-in-one solution, why do I need a second component?

One integrated pedal would be cool.

But no one talks about the cost to out source the manufacture of the chassis etc. I would guess re-using the same parts and sources for the manufacture of the chassis and other common components used in the MFC, FX8 and now AX8 makes good business sense.

A brand new form factor costs way more $$ (and time to market) to prototype, tool up manufacture, iterate with the manufacture and check quality etc.

Why not sell it both ways? You get a better deal if you buy it with everything, but you can buy a stripped down model.
Or why not make a "std version" with say 10 global allround amps and cabs more or less compatible with most current music styles and then sell "user packs" with more specialised amps and cabs oriented "jazz", "metal", "blues", "rock", etc ?

I'd imagine you guys don't want to give any specifics on a release date yet but a relative time frame would be awesome :) I'm sure there are a lot of people like myself that are really hoping to find a great portable rig like this and would love to have an idea of when it might become a reality. Say some time in 2016 or later this year maybe?

I have no idea, but since this thread is all about wild speculation I'm going to guess no to both of those. If I were designing this, I'd leave those functions to the AxeFX. There's gotta be some distinction between the products to move people up the line for those that need more features.

Probably a while before we'll know, but:

* Does it have digital I/O ?
* Does it work as a USB audio interface ?

Don't give a rat's ass about digital I/O personally, but the USB audio thing would be big. I'm just a Madison Square Basement hobbyist and the USB audio is a bit handier for me than running stuff through a mixer.

However, the USB audio uses CPU (there are a few presets on my Axe2 I had to tweak a little because they crackle when I'm using the USB audio). Since the AX8 isn't going to be a powerful CPU-wise, and seems for targeted to live performing, it seems reasonable that they would leave that feature out.

Looking at all the grief people are having authorising Cablab 3 should make for a rethink about licensing and authorising models for the AX8. This sort of thing is fine in the studio (got loads of stuff on my iLock2) but should not be considered near a gig situation.
Makes me shudder to think about a crash and reinstall onsite. Having to authorise everything you bought through the venues wifi hoping that the iLok website (and venues wifi) is running fine to get everything working before a show :) The AX8 just becomes a computer device in that situation and not a musical device.
Just a thought :)

+1 Any DRM scheme should be innocuous in regards to performances for sure.

For me, if it got down to a reflash of my AxeFx or AX8, I would probably consider it DOA and play the show with my backup rig. Even if there is zero DRM involved.

Totally agree. If there has to be DRM, a "check in" once every 72 hours or something could work, but AFAIK iLock doesn't have that option.

I think people might get initially confused and/or prefer that switch 1 is on the bottom row. i know many people like to have Scenes on the bottom-most row so they don't have to step up and over a row of switches. it also makes sense to start Scenes from #1 from a programming point of view. so on the FX8 or AX8, someone with 4 Scenes, for example, will have to step over the bottom row of switches and up to the 2nd row of switches for changing their scenes.

this is different from the MFC-101 and most other foot controllers. the 1st switch is usually the bottom-left-most switch, therefore people use the bottom row to change Presets and Scenes.

Good point! I wish FA would switch the rows around and put buttons 1-4 on the bottom row like everyone else. I use scenes all the time and scene 1 is always my starting point and most used scene, followed by 2, 3..., probably like most people. Putting buttons 1-4 on top makes the layout awkward to get to the most used buttons. Pushing button 5 to get to scene 1 also seems awkward. If not too late maybe FA can relabel the buttons?

Umm...hell no! That would be the worst possible solution.

So, you're on a gig and have no internet and there's a problem, so you can't use your device at all. That's worse than connecting to wifi once every three days to keep the license active? Not for me.
