Or bass. Bass players don’t seem to be anywhere near as obsessed about gear as guitar players.
Hmmm... Midi controllable... so could be piped into an AX8 without much fuss I would imagine, though at $599... A full blown Helix FX is the exact same price. So ..there’s that.
For a backup? Maybe.. but.. something about that application doesn’t really do it for me either.. Maybe it’s overall standalone switching limitations.. Maybe I’m missing something, but not really sold on it.
No.. I don’t have anything against Helix, but this one’s not quite for me.
Gear gear and more damn gear ..... I should have smashed that first guitar I got and just learned to play the bagpipes.

I wouldn't really call HX FX as full blown since it doesn't have amp modeling. The HX Stomp does, but only one DSP and six effects blocks max (including amp and IR blocks)
Yeah .... nothing musical can escape the technological revolution I guess ..... but a spandex kilt would have been much more comfortable back in the 80's

You don't really need new string on a bass very often. It's not like you can break them or hear them become dull anyway. You can probably clean the grime with WD40 from time to time and make them "new" again.
There's "decent" gear, which any musician should strive to have, the kind of gear that doesn't limit you as a musician.
Then there's obsessive splitting of hairs that guitarists are especially prone to. I mean, do I really need a $3K+ custom guitar (let alone half a dozen of such guitars), or could the same thing be accomplished with a $500 used Ibanez just as well? I think we all know the answer to that one, as unpleasant as it may be. OCD and non-zero discretionary budget aren't a good combination.
Would have been the same thing.
You would end up buying passive and active pipes, 6 pipe and 12 pipe bagpipes, single hollow and double hollow pipes, short kilts, long kilts, red plaid, green plaid, berets. Then you would still need recording gear to record the pipes. Then you’d probably get into pipe modelling and need pipe IR’s and bag packs, weekly firmware updates, etc.
Besides, I doubt there would be a pipe forum as helpful as this one.
I’m waiting for a Fractal version. I think I posted about an “AX2” or something like that some time ago. Basically just amp and cab modeling in a stomp box. L6 did one better and threw in their whole catalog of effects.
