FM9 Firmware Version 9.01

Good evening,

I notice that with this firmware, after several tests, that if the CPU is above 70%, I have a latency between changing the presets.

Whether with my AXE FX III, my FM3 or my FM9, I have presets quite loaded in CPU, but I always manage not to exceed 78/80% and I have no worries.

I have this problem only with this firmware on my FM9, as if the gapless was not active.

If I lighten a series of presets, with a CPU between 65 and 70%, and I alternate between them, it works very well.

Is there only me in this case?

Otherwise, I take this opportunity to warmly thank the entire fractal team, who do a great job, and who regularly update their products to compete with perfection on a daily basis.

For 25 years that I have been doing this job, it is by far the best investment I have been able to make

Thank you!!

Try to resave the presets. They should be shown with inverted numbers when not 'saved under the current firmware'.

Make sure to read this quote, including the bold last line:
when loading a preset that was created using a previous firmware version the preset number will be shown in inverted text on the large font home GUI. This indicates that the preset needs to be saved under the current firmware to update it for compatibility with “Gapless Changes – ALL". Presets created and saved with the
currently running firmware also load faster in general.

I had already had this problem, but it's not that.

My presets are already saved with this firmware.

In case of doubt, I even reinstalled the firmware, deleted my system preferences and started from scratch but without success then with my backups.

The "problem" is with the CPU when it is "too" loaded (above 70%)

I had indeed had this problem with the FW 9.0 beta 2, and it was indeed this solution that solved my problem.
I no longer had this latency problem.

It's really with the FW 9.01 that I can't work with a CPU that is too loaded

Good to hear that!

Well, you need to make them a bit less CPU greedy. You can find tips on the wiki: https://wiki.fractalaudio.com/wiki/index.php?title=CPU_usage#CPU_usage_management. If you're still having trouble, post one of your problematic presets and maybe we can help you with lowering the CPU usage.

Thank you for your quick feedback.

I know how to lighten my presets, it's not the problem.

I just wonder if with the previous firmware I could and not with this one. For my use, 70% CPU, it curbs me a lot.

I have the latest versions of FW installed on my FM3 and AXE FX III with an 80% CPU and it works very well.

But indeed, if this firmware works like this for the FM9, I would install a previous version, but I'm waiting a bit, there are always good surprises with the FAS team ;-)

Weird it is FM9 specific. You could upload two FM9 presets and add an audio recording of the gap you experience when switching between them on the FM9. So we can see what we can reproduce...
(Wait a few seconds before switching back and forth...)

Do you have a gap in audio or just a delay in switching?

Do your presets have a lot of modifiers?

Post 2 presets that demonstrate the behavior so others can test.

The bot insisted on downloading the update even though I had already done so. Then it prompted to install the three files. I updated the USB first. Then the FM9 firmware. As usual it asked me to reboot the FM9 when finished. Now it has a white screen. What should I do?

Mishaps during firmware updates are rare but can occur. In the event that your unit will not boot normally after an update, Fractal Audio's newest products include a built-in recovery system known as the “Emergency Boot Loader” which you can use to get back up and running again:

  1. Power down the unit and wait five seconds.
  2. Power on holding both PAGE LEFT and PAGE RIGHT buttons until the Emergency Utility page appears.
  3. Update as normal using Fractal-Bot.

Thank you for the time you give me.

I have redo other tests, and indeed, the latency is more visual than auditory.

I mean by this that the auditory delay between 2 preset changes is almost minimal (0 latency between scene changes), it's just that the FM9 screen displays the presets with a greater delay, but the sound change is there.

I would see with more intensive use if it's the same, but if it's just visual, it's largely correct for me.

In any case, thank you and also md1234 for your help

I have done some test with fiction presets.
In zip file - wav example of preset switching.
It sounds not completly gapless but i don't know what meant johe94 about his problem.
May be he can test my presets on his device.
PS: test 2 preset has 2 multi delays, so we can't use it on older firmwares.

I think he meant that the user interface in FM9-EDIT lags / is slow compared to the actual preset change on the unit. Which is a good thing. IIRC this is because updating the UI gets the least priority in the unit. (It would be nice though if the UI would refresh a bit faster.)

In fact, it is on the screen of the unit that I have latency, even without being connected to FM9-EDIT.

I gigged this latest firmware and it worked flawlessly for me. It sounds amazing too. Well done team Fractal. Y'all are the best!
