FM9 Firmware Version 9.01

No it’s full release and ready to go. I noticed the Fractal downloads US webpage hasn’t been updated with it though for some reason (UK webpage is up to date). Probably just forgot after pausing 9.0 due to new error.
Thanks!

Updated, despite my CPU concerns. Eliminating Cab Room and selecting lightweight compressor types generally kept the CPU within limits. I'll have to adjust my Reverb block settings and deal with different compressor characteristics, but it wasn't as painful as I thought it might be.

The new Rockman Compressor model seems to be one of the most economical.

Ran the newest FW using SD PS200 into 2 Mesa cabs...sounding insanely great!! I'm actually coaxing better tones thru my FM9 than thru my Axe3. Guess I've been spending more time with FM9 than the AF3 lately.

I notice since the new update which is amazing I noticed that the CPU percentage is jumping rapidly up and down percentages by % 2-3 for example 49,50,51then 51,50,49. I tried thr usual troubleshooting solutions but this has not changed.I know before it would do so but very slow and subtle. I was just wondering if anyone has had the same issue? Thank you!

Yep the new firmware requires a lot more cpu. It's a good trade off for my non turbo FM9

Do you guys think the FM9 Turbo will eventually be left behind in terms of FW upgrades if each successive upgrade is eating so much CPU?

Why worry? Every piece of technology eventually hits a point where it can't support the very latest updates—but that doesn't take away from its capabilities. The FM9 remains a powerful and great-sounding platform, and it'll continue to deliver excellent results for years to come.

Just wanted to add the from the support all the way down to the unit itself it is just amazing a dream come true. I am a former headr7sh user and thier support was pathetic at best the unit w as ok but FM9 is on a different level in every category. By any means I was not complaining about the unit I just noticed that CPU percentage rapid fluctuations and wanted to just make sure it was normal. Again amazing unit beyond amazing and really great community. Thank you FAS...

Yeah people seem to think these days that if they can't update anymore, that the unit must be worthless and broken lol

for sure...but...FOMO

Fractal devices hold their value well. I upgraded to FM9 Turbo from a FM3 Mk 1. I listed it on reverb for $25 under what I paid and it sold in less than 24 hours. I could’ve gotten more (this was the period of time when FM3’s had a big backlog) but I wanted to move it quickly. Point being it is straightforward to upgrade if you need to.

Don’t let the possibility of your unit not having the newest FW in the future rob you of a deeper connection with music today.

Absolutely, yes. It's how software vs hardware works. There have been several versions of the AXE FX and two so far for the FM9. Hardware longevity varies from one manufacturer to another. The same Helix has been around for 10 years (which is an incredible accomplishment in itself, since people have been talking about a Helix 2 for almost half of that time).

I came from Helix. For me, Fractal is superior in every category except for unit UI, but even that you end up learning with use.

The way I have adapted to the CPU concern is to break down my presets. Why have a rotary for example, sitting in your "one-for everything" preset the whole night only to be used in a couple of verses of one song. Add to that all the programming you have to do to set up that hidden way to engage it that's out of the way of the stuff you regularly use. Setting it up might really not be that complicated but you might need to sacrifice the rotary sound because you don't have CPU to add more enhancements to it. So create a new preset where the rotary is the start of the show. This also allows you to make use of so much more of the many blocks and algorithms (choruses, delays, reverbs, etc) available.

I used to be that one or two preset guy and moving away from that mindset has made the FM9 sooooo much more enjoyable to use. Why limit yourself to using 4 channels of any block per gig, when you could have 4 channels of any block per song (or group of songs).

Hope this helps ease the "stress" ;)
