FM9 Firmware Version 8.00

One thing I've noticed with v8 beta 1 and beta 2 is that my USB performance with Axe-Edit is noticeably faster overall when exporting and copy/pasting presets via the Preset Manager window. I'm going to upgrade to the final official release tomorrow but don't expect that will change. Windows 10, no other changes to the PC, etc.
 
While I always appreciate sound updates a lot, I can't say I hear much of a difference. There might be a bit more weight to the sounds, but that is very, very subtle. To my ears, saturation and harmonic distortion in the lowder mids usually give away a modeller when compared to a real amp, and I was hoping that would be better in this release, but sadly, it's not.

Also, still not possible to add tempo to setlists, which leaves the setlist pretty much useless.

After all the enthusiastic reports here, I am pretty disappointed by this update.

Installed the new firmware on release date with no problems but needed to tweak a couple of my presets for tone - the new firmware seemed brighter on some amps. Gigged it last night and it sounded great and everything worked fine. Thank you FAS!

Funny how we all here things different. I think its more in the high mids (a tad harsher) that separates the tone from tube amps. But its hard to say. I've got a couple tube amps here and its not an apples to apples comparison. As I've only had my FM9T for a month, I'm just at the beginning of what it can do and its already blowing me away with how it sounds.
As for each firmware update, I might be with you there and just how much it actually improves. Since I've had my unit I've had firmware 7, beta 2 8 and now 8. I'm not sure I have heard dramatic differences but then I have not had this unit long. And digital modeling is quite new with me.
Maybe you were expecting more than the firmware update actually was intended to give. Hence the disappointment. I've been happy with what the FM9 has given me since day 1. First time in my life I can picture my self with out my tube amps.

I had not updated mine since the first of the year when 6 came out. I can tell you I hear positive differences going all the way up to 8. I have my Mesa Fillmore sitting next to it and using the same cabinet it is hard to decide which sounds better. I am using a Cab with an Alnico Cream and a Fryette PS-100 amp. This firmware sounds pretty good. Especially dirty sounds.

I agree ion the upper mids, this update gets that much closer. to me.

I have a Mesa Fillmore 50 that I often compare with. None of the amps I have on the FM9 are really an apples to apple comparison. I do hear some differences, I think between 7 and 8 firmware. Just not dramatic. I can imagine going from 6 to 8 might be more of a difference.

I wish they had a Filmore model for sure. I am talking about het feel and the way it plays at edge of breakup and such. Very close in feel and realistic cleanup with volume now. Yea, big difference int those two version hops. That upper mid hardshness thing is much reduced to my ear and the feel is more realistic to me. Of course this applies to running it with a speaker cab.

Gonna have to see if I hear any difference with my Fender FRFR.

For me getting rid of almost all of that upper mid harshness has been just working with the presets. Possibly the newer firmware has had something to do with it. Its pretty much not a problem from when I first got my FM9 about a month ago.
The amp Capt Hook 1A I've been able to get near identical to the blackface (blackbird circuit) of my Fargen DBC50. Its amazing how close I have it. The Fargen maybe just a bit bigger\fatter in the mids. One of these days I'll work on getting something to match my Fillmore 50. I think this unit can do anything if you work at it hard enough.

How are you monitoring and how are you comparing?

Unless you compare the modeler to an isolated and mic'c guitar cabine with your amp, or comparing the modeler thru the same speaker cabinet as the amp, then you're not comparing the same things.

So, you're sad that a feature that hasn't ever been said will be implemented wasn't implemented in this specific firmware?

I think that there is only so much you can improve the sound quality after a certain point.
I've had my sound on Fractal just sound excellent to me the past 3 years. So once you get to that point...it's hard for any room for improvement in a substantial way.
It's all gonna be subtle.

Thanks for your honest opinion. It's often unpopular here but I appreciate the post. I've been pretty much content since fw5 but everyone has different goals.
If there isn't a wish created yet for the setlist tempo option, you should submit it.
 
Help! I did the update for the Firmware 8.0 and the accompanying DynaCabs. But now every single preset in my unit has the orange "edited" indicator light lit. It doesn't go away unless I do a save on the preset. Is there a way I can globally save every preset so I don't have to select every individual preset and hit save so the dang edited light goes off? Thank you.

Yes!

Choose a parameter you never adjust, like the Input block output level,or similar.

Shift-right-click the knob and choose "Save in multiple presets", "All Channels", and then select all of the presets in the picker window that pops up.

Once it completes, you should be good....

This was great advice. Unfortually, I managed to screw it up! I did not read your post carefully and I selected the "Gate Threshold" knob. Is this something that would have changed drastically from preset to preset? Or is this a setting that would have been basically consistent across all presets?
