I neglected to mention that I did change the controller to input 1, it was the first thing I did (OBEL or not, that’s how I like it set). And no, do not assume that sensitivity would be the only variable. The nuances of your picking style and overall volume of the sound in the room will play a big part, as well as the overall harmonic content of your preset. Are you a bright vs dark player? Timing is everything here, as in how long it takes for the envelope to open or close. All these old Mu-Trons go a bit out of calibration over time, and the envelope response seems to become non-linear. This is why I had to spend so much time with the shape and frequency response to make it feel like an old glove.

I’m really interested to see what settings work for people!

@iaresee taking into account your previous posts, I'm very interested to hear how you like the MuTron block.

I had this to say about it when we got early access to it on the beta team several weeks back:

The Mutron setting is spot freaking on my with my micro-tron. Like...dead to nuts on. Definitely a nice quality of life thing to have it in the filter block like that.

And...using the filter block too. So nice. We have so many of them.

I am using the input block as the envelope control. I ran the wah block with envelope controller to do mu-tron sounds previously so the touch response of that setup is what I like and am used to.

I had meant to do a recording comparing it to my micro-tron. Time though...maybe this weekend.

I have only an initial take on the Mu-Tron, having only used it a bit last night, and unfortunately only through headphones. I have an original Mu-Tron III and was one of the people begging for this to get included in the Fractal universe. My guitar also has an OBEL, however I have not yet cabled the OBEL into my Fractal unit. I may one day put the envelope filter alone into an effects loop and use my OBEL.

Initially with the stock settings, I could not get much out of the effect, but after about an hour of fiddling I was able to approach the feel of my Mu-Tron. I believe I’ll be able to nail it with enough time and playing through my FRFR.

I had to make some pretty drastic changes. I’m not in front of the unit now, but from what I can remember, here’s where I left off (values are APPROXIMATE):

Peak: 3.5
Low freq: 100/min
High freq: 3200
Sensitivity: 8
Sweep shape: 3
Open/close speed (I don’t remember the parameter name): 15, 150

I also set the two pan knobs to the center.

As we all know, the Mu-Tron is highly sensitive to the signal and playing style, but this is getting me pretty close to how my ‘72 Mu-Tron III operates. The only mod that was made to my Mu-Tron was by Bob Bradshaw, to accept 18VDC external power, as the early models ran on battery only.

I can report that the feel of the envelope is much, much more like a vintage Mu-Tron III then I ever was able to get with a wah/envelope solution. I’m hoping this like turns to a love with just a little more effort on my part.

Here's my original:

Would like to thank FAS for tightening up the Plexi 100W and 1959SLP series. Gonna need to take a look at my compressor parameters as something is pumping (breathing) at low guitar volume settings. Will spend time with the preset Saturday, just finished with a scheduled practice and ask my guitar tech to check where my guitar volume potentiometer cuts off both low volume bridge and neck.

Other than that, the updated Marshall's are a godsend. I just swapped out some of the amps in my MAIN preset for the Plexi 100W Jumped and 1959SLP Jumped and was pleasantly surprised. May need to tweak cab choices (somewhat bright just now) but will find what I need.

I've only had my FM9 for about a month. I've had 3 different versions of firmware, 7 beta 8 and as of yesterday the official 8. Today it just sounds fantastic, much better than when I first got it. I can't tell if its the newest firmware or the fact that I've gotten the hang of setting the presets up better.

Quick question. I've been installing the betas all along. When the final release came out, Fracbot showed that there was new firmware and dynacabs. However, after installing the firmware and going back to Fracbot, it didn't show that new dynacabs were available anymore. So, am I good to go or show I reinstall the dynacabs?
