What genre's are you working in?
I only record at 96khz when doing music that requires it- generally sparser styles like Jazz.
For rock, particularly heavy rock I wouldn't go above 44.1khz.
Reason being rock productions generally have more instruments and double tracking.
It becomes a matter of managing DSP in the host computer and I generally can't do a rock production as I run out of processing, even on an 8 core Mac Pro.
Jazz and sparser styles use less processing so I tend to go with 96k for those.
