Axe-Fx III Firmware 29.01 Release

Absolutely amazing update, thanks SO much!!! Regarding the VC, I have been in the "I like it, its usable for me" camp for over 3 years now. Sure it had a few shortcomings but it was definitely usable and very appreciated. I fired up this update and of course went straightt to VC and set it for -2, and started noodling on high gain.

Holy COW straight out of the gate the pinch harmonics/squeelies were on FIRE!! HUUUUGE change from the previous VC, I still can't believe my ears. This is a massive change and as others have noted, the perceived loss of gain in in previous VC versions is gone! I continued to check out Notes and Chords settings and realized 90 minutes had flown by. AND we get another new drive pedal, on and on!!

For those who begged Cliff for this improvement, you all bettah be baking him a cake because he absolutely delivered on this one!! Hell, we should all bake him a cake, man. This is another fantastic update that you can be certain NO OTHER COMPETITOR would or could deliver, especially for free. Its clear we are fortunate enough to be right time right place to take part in this, and we made the right decision.

<somewhat related introspective follows, but I am compelled to say it in various forms from time to time>

When I finally caved over 3 years ago and gave up all my stacks, combos, and racks, and migrated to the Fractal AxeFX platform, I really had no idea the company standards, policies, etc. I just knew Chris Broderick had played the Megadeth 25th anniversary tour for Rust in Peace and he blew my doors off, playing Marty's stuff flawlessly and with almost flippant, careless smiling ease and true perfection...the tone was absolutely brilliant. It was perfection in a realm of true metal classics you just don't touch or muck with, and he pulled off LIVE. I soon discovered quite by accident the he pulled this off with an AxeFX II!! That was it. It was finally time for me to explore "digital valve amp modeling" after 35+ years of gigging and recording Marshalls.

I moved to the III a month after I bought the II, and had NO IDEA who Cliff was or what this company was all about. What we have is so unique among all companies it almost defies comprehension. I have never received "free updates" that were anything more than "fixing shit that should have been working in the first place" for the most part from any company To have this fella Cliff, who created this beast, continuously not only make improvements that I didn't know could be improved, but to also include new amps, features, effects, functions, is so unbelievably generous it defies the norms and this happens on the regular. All I had to do was get on board.

Sorry man, I get fired up about this and I know most everyone is as grateful and amazed as I am when it comes to our beloved Fractal gear, and that its glory really boils down to one amazing fella, Cliff Chase. You're stuck with me, man. Never going away.

Here's to you, brother. You have created a unique masterpiece that changed the world, and stands steadfast to your guiding principals of perfection and true value: Fractal Audio. What a ride!

Thank you so much.

Guys can I install the Axe edit update first, then firmware, or is it vice versa? If it has been asked already, sorry I just want to jam and have only an hour and a half to kill. Thanks in advance 🙏 Edit:notes say "before clicking ok to install this update, review the notes below to ensure your hardware has the required firmware version" so vice versa right?

It doesn't matter unless the release notes say otherwise.

The release notes for Axe-Edit will tell you what range of firmware it will work with.

Thanks Rex, I just edited my comment though. What do you make of it? To me the notes seem to state otherwise?

Don't apologize, many of us feel exactly the same. I won't go long since you pretty much nailed how I feel...but long story short it improved my playing more from age 42-45 than it did from 14 to age 42. I never knew tone could sound THIS good, and I have been searching for it my whole life. Better sound=better player. Better player= cured most of my depression. I wanna hug the man. 🙏❤️❤️❤️

My uncle sold me my first electric guitar with a Peavey Decade amp, man those were the days. I asked him how do I make it sound good to which he replied. “Doesn’t matter what you’re playing on, your gear doesn’t make you better, but it sure inspires you to play better.”

Welp, AXE FXIII sure makes me inspired to play better as well.

Thank you Cliff and the Fractal team!

Do i have to unconnect my fc-12 from my axe fx III when updating firmware or manipulating presets or cabs in the manager?

I wouldn't think so, especially for the latter two. I never did, yet - but I also have almost nothing assigned to my FC-12 that could get screwed up for me to notice.

Very nice of Cliff to add the Barber Gain Changer.
Thank you for this.
I love Barber pedals. I own: Gain Changer, Gain Changer SR, Small Fry, BUSS.
And used to own: Ltd v2, Direct Drive (Big box), Burn Unit (Very big box)

Now on my Gain Changer (and Gainchanger SR) there are two switches. The left switch to select the mode (fat, V2, flat and fat)
The right switch to select the between the low gain and ünlimited"

Will those switches be added in a later firmware? thx
