It was previously called Fast and Smooth. The names were changed to Notes and Chords to try to clear up the usage. Apparently it didn't work.

If you are playing notes and chords then set the tracking to Chords.

Why don't you just try the firmware first though? The new pitch shifting is phenomenal and arguably best-in-class.
it would be really useful to maybe have something in the editor's ui that says

Chords: most precise, higher latency
Notes: less precise, medium latency
None: least precise, lowest latency

or something like that

I haven't kept up with the Compressor types, but are the various Dynami-Comp and Econo-Dyno types new? I know we had a Dynacomp style there before, I just don't remember these. Either way, I'm excited to try them.

I like it. Smooth like <fill in>>.

Like butter? :D

I am very glad about the Barber! It is still on my unused board together with the Direct Drive Super Sport and the Wah, because I just cannot sell them. Before the Fractal these were on my board for four years, because IMHO there was no better on the market.

I still have a Barber LTD and Tone Press. I pulled them out not too long ago, they still sound great today. The new models take up a lot less space with more options. Can't wait to try the GC model.

I had the Barber LTD for years, it was one of the few that didn't get swapped out for something 'better'. Great mild overdrive. Excited to try the new model, the Gain Changer appears to be similar to the LTD with more EQ options and a bit more gain on tap.

It will be interesting to see if it can replace the Guardian Photon Speed that has quickly become a favorite. The GPS is stellar and quickly became an 'always on' pedal in the chain, something I used to do with the LTD. The way Cliff has nailed these low gain OD's is impressive.

Adding to the my small test described here: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/thre...-29-01-public-beta.214695/page-7#post-2696458

TLDR, Virtual capo set at -2, set to Chords and tracking at 5.
  1. v26.01 Pitch block disabled
  2. DI downshifted by Apple's AUNewPitch plugin but processed by the same Axe-Fx III chain. Latency ~80ms.
  3. v26.01, -2 capo enabled, smooth pitch tracking - latency ~25ms
  4. v27.00, -2 capo enabled, chords pitch tracking - latency ~30ms
  5. v29.00, -2 capo enabled, chords pitch tracking - latency ~25ms
  6. v29.01 beta 2, -2 capo enabled, chords pitch tracking - latency ~25ms
  7. v29.04 beta 4, -2 capo enabled, chords pitch tracking - latency ~25ms

agreed, the Photon Speed has become my favorite always on drive. It stacks really well.

I'm getting some funky sounds when I play pinch harmonics in the "higher" registers, kinda sounds like the sound of picking up a coin in Mario lol. So for example, E standard, 7th fret g string pinch harmonic. The lower you take the VC the more consistent the sound is. It's like an initial pitch, then a corrected one, really fast. Haven't noticed a different when adjusting chord/notes, and tracking adjustment.

Could be the pitch detector picking up the initial transient of your thumb first, then the actual pick attack/harmonic.

Is there no way at all to lower the latency even further? Like absolutely not possible?

Just kinda a tech/cpu/software related question . Not a request or anything.
