Axe-Fx III Firmware 28.00 Release

So I decided to take a little venture away from my ‘home’ amp (IIC+ Deep Bright) for a more modern sounding project I’m doing some session work for. My GOD the 5153 Stealth sounds good with this FW. It’s how I always wanted a Recto to sound but could never get them to. Ultra aggressive, tight, but so saturated you wonder if it’s even possible to go any further.

I usually use my own IR mix from a Traditional Recto cab and a 5150 III cab, but for a laugh I also put together a patch with both the trusty IIC+ and the 5153 going through their respective cabs. I think I saw paradise…
Try the Recto red modern with any butler driver. Roll back the bass on the driver, treble at 6ish, level at max or close to it...with the drive on the Recto at around 5 or 6ish, keep the drive on the...uh...tube driver😁 around 1.92 to 2 max. Thank me later..this fn changed my world. Also when I learned you need to keep the MV on those amps no higher than 3 too..they fall apart quick after that. To your other point, hell yes on the 5153. Just don't give up on the Recto yet...it is worth it brother🌶️Shared a preset a while back to good reception ( unless the kind folks here just don't want to hurt my feelings) let me know and I'll send it your way🙏

Does anyone know where the firmware file is stored if you automatically update through Fractal Bot (and not through the manual load process).

Hmmm.... I foresee trying out the VCA Bus after the amp/cab in my presets. Have been using a different one, but interested to try the SSL once it shows up in FM9....
Yeah man. Enjoy it. Its got its own thing going. Ive used the Softube plugin/console for recording and, you know, its lovely. The glue with that character that brings forward a warmth and drive in a mix without being overpowering. I still have to check out the Mu model and some others but this SSL does the job on a guitar signal imparting its signature.

Cheers!

make sure you use fc-edit to backup "export" the FC Layouts prior to upgrading.

Thanks for posting this. I've been using this thing for years, and I'm meticulous about backing everything up before and after upgrades (and often in between as well), but I never realized the layouts could be backed up separately. I'm assuming layouts are also included in the System + Global Blocks + FC backup selection. Is that correct?

Actually, I'm not sure. Someone can chime in
I'm very thorough about backing up too.
1) I use fractool to backup all of the mappings for each preset to cab (the extracted spreadsheet helps me find duplicate IRs on the system as well, shows which IRs have no presets and which IRs I use the most)
2) I highlight all presets in 'manage presets' and right click to export them all as single files
3) I highlight all cabs in 'manage cabs' and right click to export them as single cab files
4) I do the full backup via fractal bot
5) I backup the layouts via fc-edit
It covers anything and everything, if I need them at any time.
I do this almost weekly

I saw Rex's note above. The only downfall of restoring from that bundled global + system + FC file would be, what if you just want the FC part restored and not touch anything else.

FW 28: HELP lost my both footcontrollers... possible downgrade to fw 27.03 ??

EDIT: Downgrade to 27.03 don't help:eek:
Did you check your car boot? Sorry couldn’t resist.

What sort of foot controller, FCs, midi, etc?

EDIT: nvm, missed the boat

You'll be just fine with the FM9. The improvements on the AF3 will make their way to the FM9
Are you sure? What Cliff suggested was that with these new algorithms, he was surprised he got them to run in real-time with sufficient overhead on the Axe3 which has significantly more horsepower than the FM9.
I had these new triode algorithms but I didn't think they'd run in real time.
That implies they may suck more cpu power than the FM3 or FM9 can muster. Maybe not, but it would be good to hear from Fractal before my next purchase. Maybe I misinterpret. But at some point you'd expect the updates to exceed what the FM3 and FM9 are capable of vs the Axe - unless the amp model cpu cores are similar and the Axe just has more available for FX?

Axe Edit getting stuck on "Initializing" for anyone else? I've tried rebooting Axe Edit several times and my Axe III several times.
