How do you know? Newborn infants are just raw response to inputs — perfectly predictable. We have no conscious memory of that time.
I have memories of providing predictable raw response to the inputs of peekaboo as an infant (perhaps a month old). In fact, I remember the adult used the words "There he is!" instead of "peekaboo", even though I was oblivious to their meaning at the time. In my later years, I find that I have no recollection of certain teenage events that friends and family members can recall with ease. This does not mean I was not conscious while I was experiencing them. I can also recall events some of them don't remember. This does not mean that they we're not conscious while they were experiencing them.

I'm also not sure why this tangent, born of an off the cuff analogy, is taking over the thread.

Human brains are unreliable for memory, full stop.

So if you thought your fw12 tone was the best ever, wanted QOL updates and never made a recording with that fw12, its a guess at best. Thats a small part of why I record quick demos a lot - i can compare later. Better if you keep the DI too (I always forget :/).

Got a feeling this version is nearly done on the timer :)

I, too, have a single memory from my infancy. Mine involves a “No-no” response to my attempt to crawl to a different room at my grandma’s house. But you don’t crawl as a newborn, and peek-a-boo doesn’t work with a newborn. We need a better definition of consciousness.

When tangents take over firmware threads, that’s usually a sign that the firmware is stable. :)

Not to get too far off-topic, but you asked…
Infant consciousness is more sensory-driven and less structured compared to adult awareness. Infants show signs of perception, intentionality, and responsiveness to stimuli. They experience sensations, emotions, and even rudimentary forms of self-awareness.

Predictable responses? Not until they begin experiencing operant conditioning. Eventually (and here we’re getting back on topic) they gradually approach become another brick in the wall.
