Axe-Fx III Factory Presets for firmware 27.03

Ooof. That was a lot of (fun) work. I could maybe manage something a little more scaled down haha
Oh I completely understand. It takes me hours just to get one riff down the way I like it. I definitely appreciate all the hard work you put into it. It was actually what got my onto the Fractal bus. Cheers.

I know that, but don't you think it's time they fixed the problem?
What problem? That you have the privilege of downloading official release updates in the forums before they're posted on the business site? That everyone at Fractal (and most of the nation and beyond) are taking well-deserved time away for the holidays? That outside of a national holiday season, the customer-facing download site is customarily updated within days of any release?

I'm not sure how you get to "problem" here, brother, but I do wish you a Happy New Year.🥂

Happy new year. I don't spend much time on forums these days/trying to be more productive, so I find it convenient when checking for new software releases to find it in the support section for the product. Pretty much standard in the software industry....
You can still do that... But the forum gets updates first. After some "burn in" time by Forum users Fractal will update the website to match.

Now that you know it hits here first, should be just as convenient to check here for new firmware and presets I would think.

Many of the first bank presets have the Wah on External 1. It's important to have the expression pedal configured correctly to take advantage of the factory presets as they were intended.

I just added this to the Wiki's Factory Presets page…

See "Global Expression Pedal Setup" in the manual for more information. It's p. 13 in the FX3 manual, p. 11 in the FM9 manual or p. 13 in the FM3 manual.

These are amazing! I feel bad for asking questions about them, but here it goes:

1. I've noticed a few presets that use Legacy cabs ported from the Axe-FX2. Are these IRs still as good as the most recent ones? I never even consider using them these days.
2. A few presets have Speaker Thump and Drive at 0, although the default is 1.25 & 1 respectively. Is that intentional?
3. Any chance of a change log on the presets? I'd love to see all the changes that were made. I'm not expecting that though.

Thanks
I don't mean to bang this drum, but within the first 4 presets, 3 of them have gone from using factory IR's back to Legacy IR's.
It would be interesting to hear from the preset editors as to why they made the change.

Also, it seems only @fremen has edited the new presets to Dyna-Cabs. No one else seems to have bothered, which doesn't sing the praises well of the new Dyna-Cabs

Legacy IRs are factory IRs...

Legacy IRs ARE factory IRs. And, I just checked the first five presets from the previous distribution and they're all Legacy.

Only?
Bothered?

Since presets aren't signed it's difficult to say who worked on a particular preset. Over their history they've turned out to be a very big group effort.

When working on the factory presets my attitude is "If it ain't broke don't fix it." which I think is shared by the rest of the team. The Dyna-Cabs are awesome and I've converted almost all my personal presets to them to get to know the technology originally, then because I like their sound, but changing the factory presets to them just to make a change doesn't make sense. As new ones are introduced I think you'll see those using the new hotness.

PS - check out "Vai FX GoT". It's using only Dyna-Cabs, which is praise indeed coming from Vai. There's also "Chris Baseford GoT" and "Fremen's ODS GOT". I'm sure over time we'll see more.

Have you tried fremens presets? They sound incredible! Not sure how that doesn't sing praises of Dyna-Cabs.

I'm not saying that any of these presets are bad or that I don't like them. Quite the contrary. I don't know where that assumption came from.

When I'm saying Factory or Legacy IRs, I mean the bank you'd pick when the Cab Type is Legacy, not Dyna-Cab.
I know @iaresee states that you prefered the "Legacy" IR's for certain presets, which is great. I'm just intrigued that the choice would be to go back to now quite old IRs from the AxeFx2, rather than making use of the new Dyna-Cab tech.
I get that not every amp has a Dyna-Cab option and I know that the age of an IR has nothing to do with sound quality.

I'd almost written of the Legacy IR's from my choices, but I guess I may have to look again.

I have, In fact they are some of my faves. The Euro preset is stunning. I love the Dyna-Cabs, but some people really dont.

Vai doesn't use the Amp block for his Axe-Fx, so someone else has made that preset for us. The FX blocks are what comes from his rig.

But that's my point. They have been changed, to the older legacy IR's. Check the 1st preset and scene, 59 Bassguy - Crunch Bright.
Current Cab - Legacy Cab No.32 - 4x12 Bassguy M160.
Previous Cab - Factory Bank 2 - Cab 197 & 204

I'm not saying anything is wrong or bad, so please don't take it that way. There are just some presets that have had their cabs changed to AxeFx2 IR's.

Is there a big technical difference between "legacy" and "factory" cabs, like there is between dynacabs, ultrares, and "standard" ones?

Everyone have their own sound preferences. I have changed the cab choices in many presets to my own liking. Matches my guitars, fingers and ears better. I also made backups from my modified presets in case I need to install the factory presets again. ☺️

In the 59 Bassguy, Cab Block channel B uses the Bassguy DynaCab. Check it out.
I'll see if you're right that someone changed some of those from "Factory" banks to the "Legacy" bank, but the Legacy IRs are also quite good.
