Axe-Fx II Firmware 19.00 Public Beta #3

I can't wait till my Axe-FX and Axe-Edit agree with each other again. I haven't had time to dig into the front panel of the Axe with the beta's yet, but the release notes are calling my name, so I may have to make time.
Are you having issues or just waiting for the new parameters? Reason I ask is that I've been using Axe-Edit with no issues through the last few beta releases. I just don't have the compression settings for output or feedback or the newly added EQ location, but everything else works great. Hell even the new variable option for the drive blocks was recognized during the block update feature.

Basically you aren't going to lose any options that you already have by updating. Nothing wrong with waiting, but don't think that it won't work because it does.

Hi, I just got my first Taylor. What a work of art ... Can you share a preset that you use with yours?

I'm not with my rig tonight, but I will be happy to share some preset love as soon as I'm able.
Mine is a Taylor 814ce which loves the AxeFx. Or is it, the AxeFx loves the Taylor...
Hmmmm...
*shrugs*

I'm using Axe-Edit with 19.b3 just fine, I'm just talking about the features that haven't been added to Axe-Edit quite yet. I always try out new features, at least once.

Cool thanks !!!!

Translation: Is the Full OD going to be G3'd? Lol. I'm wondering the same thing.

Haha - Yep. :mrgreen

There's no point in me updating until the Full OD is G3'd (I've already gone back to FW 18.12). It did seem to sound better and more usable in Beta 3 than in had in the previous two Betas, which is why I asked if maybe the Drives have all been converted and they just aren't showing a "(G3)" for some reason. Unlikely I know, but it seems kind of odd to say that this is close to what the release will be like when there are several Drives still not G3'd.

This is not meant as any kind of complaint or show of impatients. On the contrary, I'm perfectly happy with FW 18.12 and am actually kind of dreading having to re-tweak my patches once the Full OD is G3'd. :D

We still don't have all Amps G3 yet so I could see 19 be released without all drives G3 yet

If that particular drive wasn't updated, why did you roll back? Seems pointless.

There are a couple of things involved with "G3-ification." One is improvement of the algorithms. These improvements affect all the models. The other part is the analysis of the of the real thing to ensure the accuracy of the models. This is a tedious, one-at-a-time process. A drive doesn't get the "G3" label until that process has been completed for that particular model.

Release notes 19.00

Improved many of the Drive models by applying “G3” techniques. Note that this
may cause significant changes to the behavior of some models. Of particular
note is that the taper of the Drive and Level controls has changed in many of
the models and may differ substantially from previous firmware. Models that have been fully converted to G3 models are indicated in the name.

Added a new Clip Type to the Drive block. The “Variable” type allows the user
to adjust the shape of the clipping using the new “Clip Shape” parameter. Low
values of Clip Shape give a smooth, focused tone while high values give a
harder, brasher sound.

Improved Cabinet block Motor Drive algorith. The new algorithm more accurately
models power compression.

Improved Amp block power tube plate current calculation. This results in
increased clarity, improved feel/attack and better edge of breakup distortion
texture. The default Power Tube Bias values have been updated to reflect this
change and existing presets will be updated automatically to the new values.

Changed all references to “CK” in the Cab block to “ML”.

The Output Compressor in the Amp block now features two modes of operation:
Output and Feedback. These modes are set using the new Comp Type parameter.

“Output” is the previous type where the compressor acts on the output of the
block. “Feedback” also compresses the block output but applies dynamics to the
input of the block based on the output compression. The “Comp Clarity”
parameter adjusts the bass response of the input dynamics and can be used to add
clarity to the bass.

Added EQ Location parameter to Amp block. The sets the position of the graphic
EQ. The default value of “Post P.A.” places the EQ at the output of the power
amp. “Pre P.A.” places the EQ between the preamp and power amp.

Increased the maximum Drive available in the Delay block. This allows adding
distortion to the echoes when using the Delay block before an Amp block.

Existing presets will automatically be updated to reduce the Drive accordingly.

Increased the maximum Drive available in the Multi-Delay block. This allows
adding distortion to the echoes when using the Multi-Delay block before an Amp
block. Existing presets will automatically be updated to reduce the Drive
accordingly.

Increased Frequency Multiplier range in Ring Modulator block to 0.25-4.0.

Existing presets using the Ring Mod should be auditioned to ensure proper
operation.

“G3'd” the Citrus A30 amp models.

Improved detector performance in Multiband Compressor.

Improved detector performance in Compressor block Dynamics mode.

Fixed “Thordendal” amp models referencing wrong default tone stack.

I just updated, but I don't see the new G3'd drive block names in the drop down menu. What am I missing here?

Thanks Cliff!

I know this is possibly an incredibly annoying request, but I use the motor drive as a big part of my sound... Is there ANY chance of having the old motor drive modelling algorithm selectable from the advanced options just while we transition please?

Pretty please?

I often use the modded 808 in front of amp blocks - gain on 0, level on 10. Anyone know if being G3'd will affect these type of settings? I understand that the taper of the control will be different, but will they be different at their extremes?

I asked Cliff about this very thing in the first 19 Public Beta thread, and he said, "The non-G3'd drives are rough at this point". And the non-G3'd Full OD is rough and doesn't sound nearly as good as the non-Beta version. Since it's an integral part of my main high gain patches, I'm waiting for it to be G3'd before updating.

See above. :razz

I've only used that model in passing, but the Level control seems to have way more output than before (same goes for the regular 808 model).

Gotta go with what works.
