Atomic Amps - "Coincident Linear Reference" Designed by Jay Mitchell

They did sound great. And like AlbertA said, the WDW rig is very enveloping. I got the feeling of wanting to grab a wall or something solid because it kinda made me feel dizzy(could have been the hangover).
Overall I was VERY impressed with Jays rig and look forward to these being released to the public. Thanks to everyone who came out. Today was a good day. :)

Yeah it was great. We should do it again.

What is a WDW arrangement?

I assume since this is a very flat response that it can reduce the bass amp tones faithfully. Fair assumption?

Wet-dry-wet - 3 channels, the center channel (The dry portion) has all the dry signal no effects. Wet channels contain just the effected signal (i.e. the wet signal).

Anyone get the cab dimensions?

I am thinking of, when I do get one, building a cab housing for the Axe-FX. I'd like for it to sit nicely on it. It looks like, though, it is a very small cab so... I don't think it'd sit nicely on one. Maybe on two. :D

AH. ok. I follow. Just never heard it said that way. Cool deal. I am sure it is enveloping. For $3000 for the powered set up... it better envelope! haha.

Only the passives were there.
Oh I see, my mistake.

Based on what AlbertA said above, is it right to assume one would need 500W+150W=650W for the passive version? If so, even a GT800fx would have insufficient headroom (clean power) to power just one Jaytomic. Then something along the lines of those high-power Carvin amps could be a good solution. Anyway, the active ones might be a wiser choice.

Jay had 2 wedges and a cube arranged in a WDW configuration (BTW I'm sold on WDW now!, it just sounds so enveloping) with the ultra providing the amp emulation and effects and a crown power amplifier driving the speakers
...
I'm curious about this... Jay was one of the early beta testers of the Axe-Fx II, didn't he end up using it? Did he actually go back to using his Ultra? Did he mention anything about that? I know it wasn't the focal point of this event, but I wonder if one of you lucky attendees had a side discussion with Jay about his choice of the Ultra (and not the II).

(and while I'm here, count me in as one who thinks the Atomic logo is a deal breaker, unless removable - I have never seen such a tacky logo; even Dweezil looks silly using Atomic gear; no offense intended, Dweezil ;-)

Jay doesn't have an Ultra ;)

BTW: the logo is ok, just not for amps!! (more for toys or something)

Matrix bridged can deliver 800W into a single 8 ohm load (but I'm not sure if these cabs are 8 ohms).

There's not enough information in the posts so far to make any assumptions about power requirements.

Jay, can you tell us about the SPL/power ratings for the active and passive monitors? I was told at the FAS Forum it's 500W + 150W / 120dB , can you confirm this? Thanks

The sensitivity of the passive speaker is 100 dB/1W/1 meter. It will conservatively take 250 watts continuous long-term power, but its maximum continuous SPL capacity of 120 is even more conservatively based on 100 watts continuous power. An amplifier that is rated at "500 watts" will produce about 100 watts of uncompressed audio without audible clipping. You could use a larger power amp if you want more clean headroom.

The active speaker will produce the same continuous SPL with its built-in power amps, which are rated at "500 watts" for the LF and "125 watts" for the HF. In actual operation, the HF driver will see 10 watts or less at maximum SPL.

Here's a short video of Jay Mitchell introducing the Atomic CLR cabs. Note, these are pre-production units, and they are the passive (non-powered) cabs.

Power sections are in development; they will probably be Class-D solid-state as mentioned by previous posters on this thread.

Just got back to Austin after coming up for the get together. It was great meeting everybody including Jay. FYI he is not a two headed fire breathing ogre. An extremely nice fellow in person, in fact.

He suggested a power amp at least big enough so it is not being overworked while in use. I would guess at least 300 to 350w, but that is a guess, not his words.

Great meeting everyone today. Thanks for letting me crash the party! And a big thanks to Funeral for hosting.
