    I switched! Axe-Fx II to AX8

I also went from Standard to Axe Fx II to the Ax8. I didn’t need two amps at once, and tuning is faster than with the AxII and MFC. Plus no rack. No regrets.

    RCF or QSC Experience?

I had the RCF 12nx.Good speaker. Now I use an Atomic CLR. It is even better. Wider sound dispersion. Very even frequency response.

From your POV, what's the most important thing when tweaking your FRFR?

Nothing more important than this! Set tones at the volume you will be using! If.... Sounds great at moderate home volume (90-95 dbA) but an ice pick live (105-110 dbA) Sounds great live but so dull at moderate home volume. Then... Fletcher-Munson in da house. And after 45 minutes of tone...

Fractal Audio AMP models: Prince Tone (Fender Princeton)

The Brown face Princeton has a tremolo that is fantastic and not well reproduced in the axe fx. It goes from deep throb to "Crimson and Clover".

Bug? possible bug with chorus block [FIXED]

After firmware 17 upgrade, I had the same experience with Chorus block. All my presets which use a modifier for chorus rate were excess cpu. Loaded up a blank preset and added a chorus, CPU = 10.8%. Add modifier to rate, CPU = 40%.

Issues with setting up for Live

CLR for the win, in neodymium, 34 pounds, but $1400 each. You can use them for vocals and bass and drum loops at the same time and it works great, especially if you have stereo. I run a two piece group (keys/guitar), with bass and drum loops in Ableton Live. With vocals from the keys and gtr...

Mackie DLM Anyone using them for their Axe?

I run a DLM -12s subwoofer with 2 CLR's. It's not an earth shaker, but it meets my needs, and weighs less than 50 pounds.

How to get an Ampeg VT-22 tone . . .

Listen to Mick Taylor era live Stones (Get Your Ya Ya's out), or Rod Stewart Band circa 1974-1976 live. Or the Cars first record. This is the sound of Ampeg.

    1 CLR or 2?

    2. Use it for the Axe-fx, vox, keys, bass and drum loops. Use a Mackie 12" subwoofer. Very happy with the setup.

New CLR ... versus old K12

My experience was the same as the OP's (although Scott did not force me into buying it).

What is the ultimate FRFR setup?

Had a pair of RCF NX-12 sma's. Was happy with it, after dialing out a little tubbiness/boominess @ 80-130 Hz. Sold them, and bought 2 Neo CLRs. They were even better, by quite a bit. What can I say say Scott was right again! (I bought FBT 8" speakers on Scott's recommendations as well, a few...

    matching subwoofers with atomic CLR

I use a Mackie DLM-12s sub with a pair of Neo CLR's. Crossover frequency on the sub is set @ 60 hz, and I don't touch the subwoofer control on the CLR at all (the CLR is set as if there is no subwoofer). Works well for me, a piano/guitar duo with ez drummer & Trilian bass loops, and 2 vocals...

Multi-tap delay still having issues on 13.02?

At 100% feedback you get nasty and very loud clipping. On 12.04b the MTD would reset to 100% feedback. Scared the crap out of me when I first tried a preset at a loud volume and turned on the MTD.

12.04 Beta - Reset Multidelay to 100% feedback (solved)

With 12.04beta my multitap was reset to 100% feedback (and everything else was also set to 100%). I got incredible feedback yowl and clipping. Resetting multidelay to 50%feedback solved th problem. The preset was fin before the upgrade to 12.0.4Beta. Other than that - 12.0.4Beta sounds fantastic.

    Presets gone, gibberish displayed

End result: Axe-FX replaced my unit, said there was a chip failure. Replacement was prompt, case handled in a few days.

My axe fx just blew up.

It's probably the 220 volt power overseas.
  22. T

Turns out, low end/bright issues are my Axe-FX II, not firmware. Version 9.0 is great

I had the same problem with my axe-fx2, plus I would get random gibberish characters for my presets. Sometimes, on boot up, one of the LEDs wouldn't light up. Returned the unit to Fractal, and they said it was a bad IC. Fractal replaced the unit. The new unit sounds great.

    RIGHT ANGLE TRS CABLE

I finally bought a hakko soldering iron & kester solder. A few youtube videos, and I was good to go. I made an axe-fx front panel and I was on my way. Right angle Neutric XLR cables are $7 each @ markertek.

There is no workspace folder, because I'm not hooked up to a computer at all - or am I missing something? I'm wotking strictly off the front panel until axe edit gets straightened out.

    Presets gone, gibberish displayed

Done and done. Doesn't help. If I start with a fresh blank preset, and add one amp and one cab, the axe fx II sounds wonderful in all it's glory. Save the preset and try to recall it, I just get garbage. The firmware seems to be ok (whether FW 9 or FW 8), it's the presets that are messed...

    Presets gone, gibberish displayed

I have an Ax fx II, and been fractalized since 2008, when I got a standard. I've never had a problem like this before. I turned the axe-fx on and all I got was gibberish (nonsense characters for preset names) and the layouts were all messed up (missing blocks, disconnected blocks. etc.0...

RCF-NX 10 vs 12 , what would you recommed for home playing?

Don't hesitate, they were right - RCF NX 12SMA

I bought 2 RCf nx-12 sma's. My application is a duo (keys, Axe-FX2, vocals) and MIDI drums and bass, in a coffeehouse setting. Had the first rehearsal last week with the RCF's and they were fantastic. The whole "band" sounded clear and the guitars were fantastic. Very smooth on the high end...

    EV112(p)

Any Axe Fx owners using the EV112p (or unpowered version)?. I'm currently using 2 FBT 8ma's for vox and Axe-Fx, and need something bigger to put MIDI drums & bass + live keyboards, vocals and Axe-Fx. We mostly play coffee houses and similar small gigs. Was thinking about springing for a pair...

EQ TIPS TO MAKE MY STRAT SOUND MORE VINTAGE.

I had a custom shop strat that was shrill as hell. Fralin Hot Blues were not an improvement. The tone controls did very little. Then I played (and bought) a John Mayer strat. Expression Pedal for Volume - adjusting taper

I'm using a Mission pedal for volume control of output 1, and I'd like to adjust the taper of the pot. I don't have much control over output volume - it's pretty much useless except as an on/off control. I already have that covered with the tuner as a mute. Has anything changed since 2008 (see...

Saw Steve Vai Saturday and asked him about the axe...

DO tell what he said about feeling positive about your guitar playing/life. Got the snot kicked out of me by a 21 year old and I've been playing guitar onger than he's been drawing breath.

    brown face tremolo

I'm still jonesing for a brown face tremolo - the one that alternates the voltage to the vacuum tubes. The victoria reverberato had this type of tremolo, as does the tone king continental. It's so much "chewier" than the black face/silver face "surf " verb. Anyone else feel this need?

    8ma review

I've had a pair of 8ma's for about a week now, and I'm lovin it. It replaces a pair of Tech 21's that will now go to my sons along with the Tonelab LE. For my purposes, the 8ma fills the bill. I play for 50-150 people in a 5 piece band (drums, bass 2 guitars, keyboard). We play at about 105...

    Verve 12MA availabilty

Just picked up a pair of 8ma's myself. I was using a pair of Tech 21's but it was too boxy sounding with the speaker emulation on, and to unpleasant to listen to with the speaker simulation off. Eq did no good. Through my Mackie 824s the Axe-fx was great. I was going to go with a QSC-122i but...

I found a link describing the tremolo circuit here (as well as some others): http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/tremoloCircuits.html This tremolo in the brownface princeton is distinctly different from that in the blackface and silver face amps. It sounds almost like a univibe. I used to own this...

Newb to Axe-fx and a +1 to Scott Peterson's advice

I got the Axe-FX standard about 6 weeks ago (after a 6 month wait) and I've been reading the forum in the interim, but I didn't unpack the Axe-FX till last night - I was a little intimidated. A friend came over last night and I broke it out. It sounded good, but all we did was go through the...

univibe and brown face princeton vibrato

I'm really digging the Axe-Fx standard, but I've been looking for 2 sounds that I can't seem to get: 1) Univibe - like Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower 2) The throbbing slow vibrato/trem of a brown face princeton (I think this was done by modulating the power tubes) I really love the slow...
