Reamping - still one track at a time?

Can be done with just the Axe FX over USB but requires hard panning the backing to one side and the dry guitar to the other so your preset can process them separately

Any tips on staying in tune?

Thanks Chris, really nice of you to offer. I seem to have gotten the major instability problem sorted out, so I think it's alright for now.

Any tips on staying in tune?

I did mention in my original post that this was affecting multiple guitars. That is true to some extent but probably was a little bit of an overstatement out of the frustration I was having at the time. I really have only been playing two guitars recently, the MIM Strat and an Ibanez RG...

Any tips on staying in tune?

Thanks so much everyone for all the advice! This has been really helpful, and has given me a better appreciation for the various factors involved with keeping a guitar in tune. On my Strat, I changed the strings, tried to apply some lubricant to the nut with a pencil (although couldn't really...

Remote control of I/O Input Source???

Cool. I use the MFC for transport too. One switch to start recording and another to stop and delete all files for when I mess up.

Any tips on staying in tune?

When I put a new set on I stretch them some by pulling up around the 12th fret. Also string bending from playing. The set that's on there now is several weeks old. Located in San Antonio.

Any tips on staying in tune?

Funny the set that's on there now I actually did really well, plenty of winds on every post, and almost no overlaps. Normally I'm pretty bad at it though.

Thanks for the help! You may be right about having a pro take a look at it, I should probably do that.

Any tips on staying in tune?

Thanks for the tips! I've always used 9's on this guitar, so don't think it's a matter of changing to larger strings. Checked the necked mounting screws, they are good. When you ask about the tuners being tight, is that a matter of being tightly secured to the headstock, because they are...

Any tips on staying in tune?

No floyd on the start, and the strings are several weeks old, so should be stretched. Regular, non-locking nut. I do notice noises from the headstock area when I tune the higher strings, sort of like a clicking sound. Hard to tell exactly where they come from, but it seems to me to be coming...

Any tips on staying in tune?

Recently I've been having so much trouble keeping my guitars in tune to the point where it's seriously interfering with practicing and recording. Had a couple questions: is this normal? and any advice? The guitar that has been giving me the most trouble recently is just a standard strat...

Remote control of I/O Input Source???

I don't understand why you would need to do so much switching of the main input source. Did you know you can record both dry and wet simultaneously? I reamp with USB for most of my recordings. My usual workflow is (1) dial in Axe FX preset for approximate guitar tone, (2) record the track...

USB signal not present at output 2

Not really sure if this is a bug or not... But if I set "Output 2 echo" to "Output 1" (and use a preset with no FX loop), I would expect to hear the USB signal from my DAW (i.e. backing track) at output 2, but I don't. According to the manual, this setting should create an exact copy of output...

Reamping while monitoring the mix - help a dummy out!

It is possible to reamp in the mix over usb but its a pain. I posted a detailed explanation on here somewhere. Involves panning the dry guitar to one side and the backing to the other and setting up the Axe fx processing appropriately.

Bug? AxeFxII not detecting USB MIDI PC input [SOLVED]

What software are you using to send the midi commands? I did some recording recently with reaper and sent CC commands for scene change and it worked although there are lots of gotchas. In reaper you have to enable the Axe fx as a midi device in the settings and maybe route the output of the...

Legacy All Axe-FX II, New Demo track!

Wow this is phenomenal! Sfogli's stylings with Satch's songwriting/creativity. I would say leave as is without vocals... Fantastic track, will have to look for this album.

    Legacy Hellecasters cover

Just finished a cover of the song Passion by the Hellecasters. I programmed the drums and recorded all the backing parts myself, including keyboard/synth. Bass was recorded using a Strat with a pitch shift block. This was done with FW 18.03 (with non-Ultra res cabs). I'm really happy with...

Legacy Steve Vai - Dyin' Day cover

Wanted to share my first recording with the Axe-Fx II: This was done with FW 18.03 using the Euro Blue amp model with the 4x12 Uber V30 cab. Rat distortion in front (using some settings found on the forum to sound like a DS-1). I'm an amateur/hobbyist, and probably don't have any...

Neal Schon tone?? Am I crazy?

Attached a couple of presets I've been working with, and here are some rough sound clips. I'm using an Ibanez RG on the neck pickup (DiMarzio/Ibz), which is fairly hot. For the vibrato verb preset I tried to work with Vinai's original settings (started by resetting the amp block and...

Neal Schon tone?? Am I crazy?

Awesome thanks for the tips. What kind of settings on the Keeley? Would be interested to hear a recording if you have it. I've been tweaking vinai's patch and have a usable tone but still room for improvement. May post a sound clip with current preset if I get around to it

    Audio bleed with USB

Yes I will turn the gate on for actual recordings. I'm coming from a GT-100 and 11R and had never noticed this before, so that is why I wanted to try and understand it (I figured maybe there were some adjustments I could make to my set up somehow to mitigate it). I still have the GT-100 and did...

    Audio bleed with USB

I should say that for practical purposes -94 db on the dry guitar signal is probably a non-issue, I can just gate it. Really I just opened this thread out of curiosity and for my own edification. Thanks for the comments though, I've already learned a few things...

    Audio bleed with USB

Added a dry track to record and got some numbers on the peaks. The peak for the backing track itself is around -1db. Dry guitar (humbucking guitar, volume up, strings muted): - Guitar noise level: ~ -100 db - Bleed from backing track: ~ -94 db Processed guitar (preset 024, noise gate off): -...

    Audio bleed with USB

Yes sir (and I can also get the same results without guitar in the signal chain). Nothing else connected to the Axe (don't know what a patch panel is). That is exactly why it's had me so confused. The source of the coupling must be analog, and I've tried to eliminate any presence of the...

    Audio bleed with USB

When recording direct over USB to my DAW with a backing track, I notice that I get some audio from the backing track bleeding onto the guitar track, if I'm using a high-gain patch. These artifacts are definitely noticeable at normal listening volumes if the guitar is silent during that passage...

Wish TotalSync support for song mode

Love the idea of song mode for taming and organizing vast amounts of presets. But for practicing at home, I would really like to be able to also change presets on the Axe FX and have those changes reflected on the MFC. Song mode acts like a group of "favorite presets" that you have instant...

Neal Schon tone?? Am I crazy?

Hearing several comments to the effect that this would be an easy sound to dial in. A little surprised to hear that because I've been chasing this tone for a while with other modelers and have found it pretty tough to match. After hearing the comments here, I spent a couple hours trying to...

Thanks guys that explains a few things. Is FW number stored when you export a patch? Is it much trouble to go backwards to older firmwares?

Neal Schon tone?? Am I crazy?

Anyone here familiar with Vinai T's cover of Big Moon by Neal Schon? Check it out on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op2X0azGGAs. It's a great cover, and the tone is a killer compressed clean sound. Description says that he recorded it with an Axe FX II. That someone could get this...

Legacy Some Satriani "Always with Me, Always with you"

All you need to do is in your DAW, set up your first track for recording the processed guitar signal as usual. Then set up a second track, and set its input source to Input 3 from the axe, which is the straight guitar signal. Arm both for recording and you're good to go. You will be hearing...
