Anyone using the Axe w/ the ZEN TOUR?

I'm thinking about purchasing an Antelope ZEN TOUR interface due to its flexible routing, compact size and the advantage of their for free native plugs. this interface can take the AXE via SPDIF or analog anyone try the ZEN TOUR?

The Axe FX with the UAD Apollo

the SPDIF out sounds great. w/ the analog you go thru 2 conversion stages and this prob affects the quality . the limitation of 48k w/ SPDIF for the Axe doesn't make much diff to my ears but having to do everything else then at 48k limits the project quality as a whole IMO. all things...

i agree w/ you! they are blowing out old stock gearing up for a new version. a major upgrade on horizon. its been a long time and the Axe updates have been few and far between indicating to me attention is going to the new product and i do look forward to it!

Any way to connect to axe edit without USB cable?

believe you can hook up via SPDIF and avoid the digital to analog conversion but having a SPDIF cable is prob less likely than having a USB cable. good luck!

i think Sonar Platinum is vastly underrated bogged down? how so? i agree they started filling it up w/ a great amount of plugs which depending on your tastes, could be good or bad. but the features like comping and mix recall, etc work quite well

great tip Brad! this interface seems to only offer inserts and balanced ins beside the XLR inputs unlike my Aries analog console i am selling and don't use anymore that had the stereo aux sends/returns

i was using my new Eventide H9 Max in front of the AxeFx II but it doesn't play nice w/ Axe distorted settings i see on the rear of the Axe- input/output 2 have FX send/returns the H9 has stereo unbalanced ins/outs and its recommended that it be placed last after preamps, compressors...

hey Paranoid i think its wonderful Johan is sharing these presets the problem is in AxeChange when i hit "show 100" it didn't go beyond his uploads when i hit "show all" it STILL didn't go beyond his Sept 10th entries, so i could not go beyond that date to download any more presets

Preset Upload Overload!

i generally like to download presets from AxeChange every 2 weeks each month but when i tried to do this from Sept 1 to Sept 15 one sole contributor on Sept 10 uploaded a whopping 65+ presets (i can't even see how many more were done) so now when i choose to show all past pre's i cannot go below...

"Block Exchange" similar to Axe Change, just for blocks?

when going thru patches in AXChange i save the better ones for dialing in later but sometimes the patch isn't happening but there is a fabulous block that stands out these i'll save and interject them into any patch to take the place of a "weak" block and give it some pizzazz

How much hard drive space do I need for DAW projects/files?

yes the 64g is a bit much but there was 8 slots and i filled them no Mac a PC i built it myself w/ carefully chosen components i run the same Win 7 16 g ram is fine 2TB is better investment like Solar Fire said sample rate, track count etc figures in but 2TB drives are cheap enuff

i have a 250g SSD drive and use that for the "C" drive, the one w/ the operating system on thats where the most speed should be course if i had the bucks i use SSD on all drives but for DAW projects i wouldn't use less than a 1TB drive so that lets out the SSD for any of the other drives...

how to use X/Y settings question..

just go thru each scene (in Axe Edit) and choose either X or Y state for your amp block to make it simpler you can copy a preferred state and paste it to the scenes where you want it then hit "save"

Do you create presets tailored for each guitar you own?

some guitars need a lot of tweaking i would suggest using the same presets but tailor the scenes for specific guitar tweaks like adding and EQ on scene 2 or diff amp scene 3 etc

i think the patch sounds great but thru the past couple yrs there have been some dynamite uploads along w/ the dross that would make it impractical to pay for just one good patch. besides it was pointed out depending on the gear used, a patch may need much tweaking anyway. keep up the good...

look in the DAW's properties and see if the Axe is listed as a controller in the device list and uncheck it if possible. i run Sonar X3 and there is a conflict if the Axe is listed along w/ my usual interface. i never used Logic so hopefully it has a similar setup. i have a Novation Impulse 49...

Joe i would def look into a lower gauge, quality cable to at least compare the differences. i feel the fidelity is quite improved and the sound is "tighter" more focused. what Cliff may be alluding to is certain gauge cable wire can act as an EQ device of sorts and there are trade-offs using...

lower gauge cable i.e. 14 instead of 16 should work a lot better. being an electrician for 20 yrs, 12 gauge romex can carry the current more efficiently than 14g. i have my sound system speakers rewired w/ 12 gauge monster cable and it kicks major ass over the 20 gauge wire that pre-existed

there are def differences in instrument cables- i have a cable called "Ripcord" made by i believe, MIT, and swapped this out w/ several other brands and there's no denying the improvement and definition same w/ speaker cables- the same company made me what they call "GAS" cables and those...

Roland is horrible w/ their lack of updates and forget any support. just about impossible have a VG-99 and they basically shelved that after i shelled out $1200 same w/ Zoom-got the H6 and thats sitting dead in its tracks- they even stripped all the time-based FX from it that the H4 had, so...

i agree esp w/ the quality cable. i have carefully A/B'ed various cables and the differences are to be taken seriously- this goes also w/ speaker cab cables, where you can hear more "thump" w/ a quality cable- good cables are def worth the investment

Tone change from 13.02 to 13.07 ?

i was wondering if my pre's tones would change at all upgrading from 13.02 to the latest fw 13.07? i really don't want to have to backtrack and fix things, if not necessary. it doesn't appear anything would change.

yes Rex i agree i've been inquiring about this but the answer i keep getting is use "the Banks" but that puts extra steps in the process. it was def much easier before
