We're opening for Umphreys in October!

They're sure to go down as one of the best jam/progressive rock bands of all time. I think they mainly use Boogies, Fenders, Marshalls, Fuchs, and Oldfields. I'm curious of what they think of the Axe Fx. I heard the set at Lockn was a heater! Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forum Fiend v1.2.10.

Thanks Jul! I'd say we're fairly similar to UM. We draw from a pretty wide range of bands; King Crimson to Blind Melon, Paul Simon to Dream Theater, Cake to Snarky Puppy. Our old album (phone.keys.wallet) is on spotify but the album we're recording now (Joyfunk is Dead) is much more progressive...

Shit In My Hat...Warren Haynes with an Axe Fx!...

I imagine he's probably just using it for tours where he doesn't have his full rig. I didn't see one at Mule in Birmingham in July but we did see a fractal sticker on a road case. Pretty awesome either way!

Sound man rant...

Every soundman we've worked with has loved the fractal. The global eq or reverb/effects mix settings are great for the few times things aren't sounding quite right.

QSC K12, how are they holding up these days ?

I've had mine for 3 years and I can't praise it enough! The limiter will literally shut the speaker off if you push it hard enough to blow it. Great eq features too

20 minutes or so seems to work best for me, and I never do more than an hour before a show or else I'll start tiring in the 2nd set. A metronome really helps too

That is steep, though a lot of the other bluechips go for 35. If you don't lose picks, it's worth it. They're great Christmas presents from the wife too!

I know this is an old thread, but I've pretty much settled on the Bluechip or Ultex jazz picks. The Redbears sound the best but they wear too quickly. The Bluechips dont wear at all and they feel and sound great.

wasnt planning on using this in a live setting. just experimented with it to see what the difference in output 1 and 2 levels were on the axe. basically when i go foh with out1 ill still use the k12 thru out2 as stage fill. just have to crank out2 a little more than i would out1 to get the same...

are they the same??? i just got a k12 and i was experimenting with sending out1 to one input on the k12 and out2 to the other input on the k12. it seems like output 2 is lower. is this correct or is something else going on. im using copy L-->R and Copy out1-->out2. i would think the levels...

i play a few bars with no soundman and i go direct more than not. get a friend to adjust the levels or get your singer to help get the band sounding good and then switch with him and set his levels to the rest of the band. there is no reason for guitars not to be mic'd or for you to go direct if...

ok. went to guitarcenter last night to hear the k12. holy hell, much louder than i would have expected from such a small speaker. long story short. i put one on layaway and only have $240 more dollars to go until it comes out. next weeks gigs should pay for that!!! :D

audience this is also in a worst case scenario.... most of the time i wont need too much volume because ill be going FOH as well. BUT, for those rare gigs where nothing but vocals are mic'd, i would want this to be able to keep up with unmic'd drums. (basically acting as a guitar cab)...

in a perfect world (which means that every club/bar had a good pa system) i would sell the rest of my gear and have a 2 space rackbag with the axe in it, and my guitar. the sad truth is that until youre making the big bucks, the places you play are not all the time fully equipped. :(

ive never had any trouble with the art putting out too much heat. ive got a 6 space skb with a 1u drawer, a power conditioner, a lexicon jamman, the AXE, and the sla2 on bottom. at the end of a 4 hour gig with the sla2 cranked it might be a little warm to the touch, never had any trouble with it...

So, tell me about the versatility of FRFR cabinets.

you could do both!!! :) seriously though get a SS poweramp and cab AND a passive fr speaker. you can run either the cab or speaker with the power amp. im running my axe through an art sla2 into either a mesa oversized 4x12 cab or a peavey pv115 fr speaker, depending on my mood. for full band...

lexicon jamman or 1u rack drawer. ive got both and the drawer has enough room for spare strings, picks, cables, tools, pens etc... i also keep the axe fx manual in there, just in case :mrgreen: power conditioner is also a great idea if you play any bars and venues with sketchy power. mine...

full range flat response. usually going with powered speakers/monitors but a SS poweramp into a cab gives you best of both worlds imo. i usa an art sla2 into a mesa 4x12 cab with poweramp sims on and also use an xlr direct to the FOH with poweramp and cab sims on. gotta love the axe :D

i guess it really just comes down to preferance. i swore by tubes and never thought i wouldnt have any in my rig until i realized that the more control you give the axe, the better. you may have to tweak your patches to get it right with a ss poweramp but in the end i think its more versatile...

an example might help. when i think of smooth distortion i think of eric johnson, holdsworth, etc. in which case id cut the presence and use a peq to boost the mids and cut the highs.

you should check out some of mark days patches. most of them are used with the art and they have an effects loop block that shoots off to the side just before the cab block. best of both worlds.

Changing to SS power amp from mesa 50:50. Need some advice.

Heres the deal. Ive been using the axe through a mesa 50:50 and into a mesa 4x12 with v30s for about 3 months now and i LOVE it. But im now thinking of moving to a SS power amp so i could use the poweramp sims in the axe and send an output to FOH with cab sims on. Ive looked into the ART SLA2...
