Axe Fx Ultra kept turning off during gig

Thanks for your reply. I checked and re-checked the cables at the venue; and it was all correctly plugged in. It could have been weird A/C power from the venue, but then again, none of the other guys' amps went out during the gig. Maybe a "surge" in electricity provokes this particular glitch...

Axe Fx Ultra kept turning off during gig

The scariest thing happened while I was on stage with a band the other day... Mid-way through the last song, my guitar sound cut out completely, and there was a loud *CRACK* that went through the sound system. Not just one *CRACK*, but about four of them in regular intervals: *CLICK*...

Sounds GREAT man. Proof that even the Axe Fx Standard kicks ass!

    To Live Forever Solo

Thanks a lot man! :) First of all, the Guitar is an Ibanez Jem7DBK from 2003, still equipped with the stock DiMarzio Evolution pickups. It only recently occurred to me that the weight of the guitar and the type of pickups used can really make or break a patch... I could never get this kind of...

    To Live Forever Solo

Hey guys, here's a recording I made with the Axe Fx! Not recorded direct, but with an Edirol in front of the Atomic Amp.

So what's the deal with pick ups?

They are humbuckers, I believe. They were the standard ones in my Epiphone Les Paul; they have a golden color and are shaped like soap bars. There are no words on them, so I have no idea what model they are or who makes them.

So what's the deal with pick ups?

Check out 2:27 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1X6likPKS8 I don't actually need it to be THAT distorted. But it seems like anytime there's even a degree of distortion on my Axe Fx, the chord definition goes out the window...

So what's the deal with pick ups?

Ok, cool. The thing is: I cannot seem to dial in a patch on the Axe Fx that gives me distorted chords while letting each note ring out clearly, Periphery Style. My question is... will better pickups fix this problem? Or put it this way... is it worth going down this road, and spending a good...

So what's the deal with pick ups?

Hey you tone experts out there! What's the consensus on pick ups? Is it worth buying really expensive ones? Do they really sound that different? In 10 years of playing guitar, I had always focused on what *type* of guitar I play, the thickness of the strings, the pick technique, vibrato...

Trying to match Petrucci's tone on "Erotomania"

Arggh. I just downloaded Axe-Edit, and have spent the past hour trying to get it to communicate with the Axe Fx properly. It's weird- it recognizes the Firmware and everything, but when I change presets in Axe-Edit, it just shows me the patch number without it's name or any effects, and the...

Trying to match Petrucci's tone on "Erotomania"

Wow, thanks a lot dude. Sorry to ask this stupid question but: how do I transfer patches onto the Axe Fx? I tried to send the sysex file like I normally send the firmware update, but nothing happened =/ I couldn't find any answer by searching the forums. It must be REALLY obvious :D

Trying to match Petrucci's tone on "Erotomania"

Thank you, Axisman! Interesting info about the two different amps! I'll try that. Soundshell, the guy in the video really has it down! Thanks for the links.

Andy Timmons' "Resolution" tone attempt (preset included)

I don't even know Andy Timmons but that's an amazing tone! So organic, fluid and responsive! Your playing was beautiful too. Congrats man.

Trying to match Petrucci's tone on "Erotomania"

Hey guys- I'm making a backing track for a friend, and I'm trying to emulate the guitar sound on Dream Theater's "Erotomania". All you are hearing is Amp Sim + Cab Sim direct into an interface. It's also double tracked, 'cause it sounds awesome :P -What do you think? Is there something you'd...

    Active or Passive?

Thanks for the reply! So am I right in thinking that simply an Axe Fx hooked up to a passive Atomic cabinet won't work?

    Active or Passive?

Hello there, I was thinking about buying a FRFR amp by Atomic. However, I don't quite understand the difference between the passive and active versions. Can someone help me out?

Ultra Pushed into use in Emergency

Awesome story! I'm glad everyone was so impressed by the Axe going direct; it's also what I want to do with my band.

    Two guitars at once

I don't think you can use the front instrument jack and the rear Input 1 simultaneously. I remember reading in the manual that the front jack becomes inactive when you plug something into Input 1. If you want to use two different sources, you must use Input 2. I've been experimenting with this...

Hissing noise on Input 2 (FX return)

Hissing noise on Input 2 (FX return)

Oh and another thing: when I dial in a patch that uses Input 2 but there's nothing plugged into it, the Axe Fx utters a high screaming sound that doesn't go away until I change the patch. This doesn't happen with Input 1.

Hissing noise on Input 2 (FX return)

Hey guys, I just compared two identical patches, one which uses Input 1, and one that uses Input 2. Input 1 had NO background noise. Using Input 2 (FX return), however, I always had this hissing in the background, which was still there when I turned down the Input 2 knob on the front...

    Having trouble with direct tone

Yes! That's exactly what I mean. It's like listening to a low quality stream from the internet. It sounds digitally "compressed". I don't understand too much about impedance or electricity... but this is the setup I used to record that clip: Axe Fx "Output 1 Balanced XLR" -> Tascam...

Why should I use a power amp?

Hey guys, I have another question. Does a power amp affect the tone noticably? When I play live, I'd like to go ALL DIRECT. So no amps on stage. Do I need a power amp? Or will the PA system already have one?

    Having trouble with direct tone

Hey, thanks for addressing the clip. You're right, dialing down the bass really helped! :) I also fixed the ground loop problem by plugging the combo amp and the Axe Fx into the same extension cord 8-)

    Having trouble with direct tone

Umm... I brought the entire clip up to a louder level before I uploaded it... so I don't think it's the decibel's fault... I was thinking about getting a power amp, because that seems to be the ultimate in what the Axe Fx can achieve. But then I thought: I already have a power amp! In my old...

Axe-Fx Floor Model or a GREAT dedicated foot controller?

Re: What About A New Axe-Fx Floor Model ? Word. I hate it when they make pedalboards with no volume or expression pedals attached. Even my GT-8 floor unit has a pedal.

    Having trouble with direct tone

Thanks for all the replies. I shall experiment with the low cut & high cut parameters. Would it make a big difference in tone if I plugged the Axe Fx into a power amp? I was really impressed by Mark Day's videos, but I suspect that he was using a power amp and he also mic'd a real cabinet. Will...

    Having trouble with direct tone

Let me first set this straight: I am truly blown away by the effects. Reverb, Chorus, Delay, Synth, Pitch, ... all incredible, high quality effects. The formant filter is mind-blowing. But to be honest, I am having trouble getting a nice distortion sound. I don't really have a rack power amp or...

Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx?

Re: Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx Very funny! It's great that you guys use bass guitar and have good results, but since it's not mentioned ANYWHERE in the manual that you could plug in a bass guitar or a microphone, I just wanted to hear a technical reason that it's...

Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx?

Re: Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx DLM, cool that you as a bass player have found the Axe Fx to be useful! Have you also used standard electric guitar through the Axe Fx AFTER using the bass? I don't know much about audio signals; but I do know that the input signal...

Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx?

Re: Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx Thanks for the prompt reply! I see that there are a couple of bass cabinets and amps, but for example in the Wiki manual it says about the Bassman: "a low-to-medium gain sound great for blues. Based on a classic bass amplifier with...

Can you run bass guitar or even voice through the Axe Fx?

Hey guys! I recently acquired the Axe Fx, and am very happy with it all. Very complicated and involved Amp Settings- it will take a while for me to truly understand how everything works! My question is; can you use the Axe Fx for bass guitar as well? My worry is that the bass guitars output...
