To Live Forever Solo

Hey guys,

here's a recording I made with the Axe Fx! Not recorded direct, but with an Edirol in front of the Atomic Amp.

That's great! You got the woody midrange that made Petrucci's early solo tones so nice. Tell me about the preset. Which amp, cab? i'm very curious.

Thanks a lot man! :)

First of all, the Guitar is an Ibanez Jem7DBK from 2003, still equipped with the stock DiMarzio Evolution pickups. It only recently occurred to me that the weight of the guitar and the type of pickups used can really make or break a patch... I could never get this kind of tone from my Les Paul with it's very warm and muddy stock pickups. And I always blamed it on the Axe Fx! :D I've ordered some really nice pickups for the Les Paul now, so we'll see how that goes...

The Axe-Fx patch I used looks like this:

DRIVE 1
(Tube Drive, Drive 2.68, Tone 3.94, Level 5.00, Mix 100%, Low Cut 793.3, High Cut 20000, Clip Type LV Tube, Slew Limit 0.00, Bias 0.02, No EQ)

AMP 1
(Recto Orange, 4.13, Bass -1.23, Mid 0.19, Treble BRT -1.51, Pres -2.20, Depth 3.78, Damp 4.92, Sag 2.44, Mstr 7.56, Warmth 2.44, Thump 4.06, Low Cut 128.9, High Cut 6382, Bright Cap 0.930, Tonestack type Active, Tonestack Freq 699, Tone location POST, Presence Freq 1861, PWR Tube bias 0.386, B+ capacitance 9.37, Trans LF 149.0, Trans HF 14964, LF Res 5.00, HF Res 5.00, Spkr Res Freq 95, Stabilizer OFF, Pres/Depth Type Passive)

CAB 1
(Mono Hires, Air 0%, Cab Type 4x12 German, Mic NONE, Drive 0.00)

And very importantly... it goes through the Atomic Amp!
This truly makes a difference to the sound; it's deeper, more "alive" and more "analog". I'm considering actually recording this way from now on; by simply placing some condensor mics or the Edirol a couple of feet in front of the speaker.
