I use a Diago Showman PB03 - fits perfectly with a couple of expression pedals.

    FX8 mkII is that good!

Such a shame the form factor and concept was dropped. A real loss. Not sure what I will move to when mine eventually needs to be replaced.

    FX8 V5.04 Released

Thanks for the update and honesty that this product reached the end of its development some time ago. I am extremely disappointed, but at least now we know.

Question - FX 8 midi switching

I had problems with the 410HJS using a Mk1 FX8, but a firmware update quite a while ago fixed it. I wonder if the Mk2 has had a similar issue.

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

The initial problem was sorted out when Fractal released updated software, I forget which version it was that corrected it, by if you are up to date the HJS FX8 combination works exactly as it should.

To close the loop - the new 5.02 firmware release fixed the issue.

Yep - worked for me too guys (another frozen error 101 victim). Many thanks.

Did that too, but the good folks here are always worth asking!

    FX8 frozen: Error No.: 101

Help! My Mk1 FX8 will not start. After the flash screen it reports "error 101, corrupt conf, using defaults" and tells me to press enter to continue, however this does not do anything and the unit remains frozen. I have had errors before when the unit has revered to default config, but it's...

Glad to hear you got it sorted! It's a brilliant combination.

Your midi setting look fine, so sorry, I can't help further.
  14. A

    Marshall JCM410HJS vs. FX8

That should work then, Obvious things to check - is the amp set to channel one too? Are you using the right midi sockets on the FX8 and the amp (I myself have spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong when I had plugged the midi cable into the thru on my amp, rather than the in!)

    Marshall JCM410HJS vs. FX8

Assuming you are using FX8-EDIT, re you setting this up on the "footswitches" tab or the "config" tab? I'm wondering if you are entering values against a midi block in the "footswitches" tab, but not actually using a midi block. For what you want to do, midi blocks are not needed.

FX8 compatibility with a Marshall JVM 410H (channel switching)

Sonicsam is right, you don't need to use midi blocks, just the PC with each scene - this works with the regular JVM410 and the JS version (I use both). There was problems with earlier FX8 firmware, now resolved. However, seems like you are trying to use some foot switches just to change...

    Fx8 Road Cases?

That's just what I use too - FX8 and 2 Mission expression pedals fit perfectly, plus it provides some protection for the plugs at the back.

    JVM410 and FW3

Nothing "apparently" or "user error" about it. The JVM410 Satriani version has problems with the SYSEX messages that FW2 was putting out, the regular JVM410 worked to begin with. FW3 has resolved the issue, and both variants work perfectly. I use both, live, and am a happy bunny now it all works.

Global noise gate - ability to place where you want

This would be a huge improvement, and something of an oversight for a system designed for 4CM.
  22. A

Noise Gate and Volume Pedal order

I'll give that a go - thanks. Would be much better if a future update gave us the ability to shift the gate and volumes round a bit more though!
  23. A

Noise Gate and Volume Pedal order

It would be particularly irritating to have to resort to that, when all the functionality exists, less placement!
  24. A

Noise Gate and Volume Pedal order

Hope you can help, I might just not be seeing how to do this. Using 4CM, I want the noise gate after my preamp, but before the volume pedal so it doesn't affect the ability to do volume swells post preamp. So the chain would be: Guitar>FX8 input [gate detection point]>some effects I want before...

MIDI issues: Fractal latency & issues?

I'll bet it's caused by the SYSEX problem as per my HJS.

MIDI issues: Fractal latency & issues?

Sounds like the same issue the JVM410HJS has.

    FX8 with Marshall JVM410H JS

It works fine with a Rocktron All Access. I suspect most if not all midi controllers will work, it's just that the FX8 sends out some spurious SYSEX messages too that the amp doesn't seem to like.

    FX8 with Marshall JVM410H JS

You set it to filter out the SYSEX and only allow PC commands, then plug it in between the midi out of the FX8 and the in of the HJS. http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm
  31. A

    FX8 with Marshall JVM410H JS

Yes there is - the 410HJS and the regular 410 have different midi implementations and the HJS is problematic. I'm having to use a midi solutions box to filter out the SYSEX data that the FX8 sends as that confuses the HJS. Fractal support told me they are looking into a firmware fix.
  32. A

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

Update, and a temporary fix. The FX8 sends out a Sysex message along with the PC. Seems that is causing the problem with the JVM410HJS. Fractal are looking into addressing the problem in future updates, but for now I've got round it by using a midi solutions event processes to filter out the...

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

The saga continues - Marshall report that there is nothing wrong with the HJS, and suggested a midi incompatibility, which given that midi is a standard really shouldn't happen. I have a support ticket open with Fractal.

Marshall HJS JVM Midi issues with FX8

That would be me! I have a support request open with Fractal, they are investigating. Fatjac, my 410H works, it's my HJS that wont. They have a different midi implementation.

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

The JVM isn't on omni, and I don't have the rocktron plugged in. I only swapped it in for the FX8 temporarily to see if the JVM was functioning.
  41. A

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

Programming doesn't work that way, you press the programme button twice and it stores the next midi message it receives and exits programme mode. Plus, if that was the case the rocktron would exhibit the same behaviour.

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

Already discounted the cable - both by swapping it out, and by using the same cable with a Rocktron All Access midi controller. However, a bit of an update: The JVM channel switching works with the Rocktron, but is intermittent with the FX8, leading me to think the FX8 was the problem, but...

    Marshall JVM410HJS Midi problem

I'm having problems changing the channel on my JVM using the FX8's midi. Sometimes the channel will change, sometime it doesn't and I need to select the same preset several times before the amp responds. Any suggestions? I've double checked the amp using a different midi controller and it...

    Active Pickups - My Theory

I take it your "yawn" comment was meant to be either condescending or just rude. You'll notice in my post I used the word "generally". In a 2 line response to a question it really isn't possible to go in to every possibility and minutiae of pickup design, but in general, pickups made using...

    Active Pickups - My Theory

It isn't better, just different. The 81 is ceramic, the 85 is alnico 5, and just as with passives it is quite common to go for a ceramic bridge and an alnico neck. (for example, Petrucci's Crunchlab/Liquifire set). The Alnico neck, be it active or passive, will generally give a warmer smoother...

Would you say the Ultra can make "ANY" guitar sound good ?

Re: Would you say the Ultra can make "ANY" guitar sound good Your post made perfect sense to me! No, the AxeFX will not make any guitar sound good, it will highlight the inherent tone of that instrument, for better or for worse (which for me is the biggest plus point of the AxeFX), unlike a...
