Axe-Fx II Technical Questions Thread

It could be done. Don't know if it would happen though. You're probably the only person who would use something like that.

I would also use that. I run a VG-99 into input 2, pretty much just for COSM guitars, and I run into issue with it all the time. I actually requested this feature for the Ultra a while back.

Will we be able to have any additional control over amp's real world switches? Such as toggling gain structure modes in the XTC?

I understand this may not be possible but only having a bright switch is kinda a bummer.

Your computer can't resample when you are in a session at 44.1 or 96k (the two most common sample rates in music production...48K is predominant only in video) and are trying to bring in a digital signal via AES say, from a device like the Axe. So it's back to the analog inputs unless you want to change your recording system to 48K just to use the Axe.

Hi Cliff
new unit looks amazing!

Just 2 questions

1.There has been a few users trying to get adrenalinn sounds but couldn't with only 16 steps in the sequencer, wondering if the new sequencer has more than 16 steps (32?)

2. Seems all reamping must be done at 48K? Correct?

can't wait to get one :)

still 16 steps at this point, but lots more tempo variations.

I've been playing with some of my presets on the Ultra with the new v11 firmware and can tell a nice difference... How much more of this effect will there be when switching to the Axe II ? or is it pretty much equal?

Mine does. I set my session to 44.1K and the driver resamples the SPDIF. That's built right into the Windows audio subsystem.

I would also use this feature. I know of a bunch of people using input 2 for another guitar, mic input, or mono synth an parallel processing in the axe-fx. It would be cool to be able to specify which input is being detected for envelope/pitch so that the signal coming from the other input can be modulated by it.

Two other technical questions:
1) Can the Axe II as a USB interface route MIDI input (from a keyboard controller or other) connected to the Axe to the computer?
2) Are you going to allow MIDI note data to trigger notes on the synth or are you still drawing the line at that implementation?

Thanks again Cliff and congratulations.

Cliff,
Can the Ultra run this new modeling if the firmware was simplified with some of the Ultra's existing features? Meaning, fewer amps, effects so it would be able to have the memory to run the G2 system. If so, it would be cool to have that as an option.

dammit! I take it with the new power & memory 32 steps might still be able to be added in the future?

One more thing, 3 effects quite a few people have tried to emulate are freeze, glitch and ebow
All 3 have been emulated to varying degrees by different users (including yourself JJ)
Just wondering if maybe any of these may have been added in either an effects block (reverb/freeze etc) or a user patch?
JJ do you think will be able to get better results off the bat if not the case?

Please describe how you are using Input 2 in these situations. I think you won't need to do that anymore. The II allows you to select either the front or the rear for Input 1. You can leave everything plugged in.

1) Yes. In the I/O->MIDI menu you set "USB ADAPTER MODE" to ON and it functions as a USB-to-MIDI adapter.
2) Same as before.

The Delay block has a hold function now. I'm guessing this is the same as freeze. Not sure what glitch is. eBow is just an envelope follower.

Are there as much improvement to the effects section as to the amp models?? I love the models but the effects are what sold me on the ultra. Is it a noticeable difference???

i would also like to know this too due to the fact that i only use the effects (no amp or cab sims when i play live). i'm really curious about the drive blocks:

1. are the overdrive pedals the same as the ones in the ultra, and if so, is there a noticeable improvement?

2. if there are new drive pedals, which ones did you add?

3. will there be any more drive pedals added to the ultra?

4. will there be any additional effects added to the ultra?

Describe this setup in more detail.

I have my standard PUs plugged into the front input, either directly or through my wireless. I have my VG-99 L/R going into input 2. I use the effects loop block as the first block in the chain with bypass set to thru. For consistent levels, I set the VG output to full and the inout2 to 3 o'clock. I have the amp block input set to left and use only 1 of the 2 independent chains of the VG panned hard left. The AFX provides most of my amps and effects. I occasionally use the second chain of the VG with effects and all panned hard right for different layers using a mixer block in parallel to route to the output. When I want to use an envelope on a COSM guitar, I have to set the sensitivity and such to my standard PUs which react differently than the COSM models. It makes it a bit awkward feel wise. Forget about pitch tracking, because a lot of the time I'm using the COSM guitars for alternate and drop tunings. This becomes a problem for me because i have a couple gigs I do where the band is tuned down a half step. Since they're not my main gigs, instead of tuning down and resetting up my guitar, I just use the COSM guitars for the whole gig. I also have a couple guitars that only have GK PUs, so envelopes and pitch tracking are out.

1. Same pedals but improved algorithms.

2. No new ones.

3. Maybe.

4. Maybe.

Let's try to keep this to technical items please.

Can you explain again the instant access knobs ..
So If I go into the amp page .those 4 knobs can be gain ,Bass, Mids ,Treble on all presets Globally
and if you go into the chorus .those functions can be 4 different parameters..

What are the list of power amp parameters now since you removed warmth and depth if I read correctly and what can you change in those .
