Prog / Fusion Recommendations?

And if you like Porcupine Tree then I suggest The Pineapple Thief. Especially the most recent albums with Gavin Harrison on drums.

Also, Flying Colors is very good - especially the first album.

Steve Morse, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue and Casey McPherson on vocals.

+1 for Flying Colors!

Have you heard the latest Steve Hackett album "The Circus and the Nightwhale"?

It is a work that deserves to be auditioned entirely, not choosing random tracks.

My tastes are more old school so it’s early Genesis, VDGG, Nektar, Crimson, etc. For newer bands putting out music in the last decade, I like the bands Discipline, Anekdoten, and Wobbler. Those bands capture the flavor of the classic bands really well.

Perhaps far heavier than you'd want, but this is my favorite band of all time. They're difficult to recommend to people who don't already like their heavy on the weirder side, but if you get 'em, you get 'em GOOOD! You have to dig pretty deep to get the full picture and to make things easier, I picked 3 from my favorite album of theirs (and one extra), but they have 3 records that are in my top 20. I toured with them on guitar for a bit in late '04 into '05 and had the time of my life. If our schedules line up, the drummer will be playing drums on the album I'm working on. And if the schedules don't sync... I'll wait until they do lol

Opeth! If you like heavier stuff, listen to their older records. If more mellow, check out the newer records.

Btw: i saw porcupine tree open for dream theater at their scenes from a memory europe tour.
And pain of salvation was opening for them on their six degrees tour.
