Prog / Fusion Recommendations?

I stumbled on these guys last year. Instant fan. Heavier, but melodic. Very well produced. They do a great job of giving you this wall of sound.

I lied. One more. Voyager. Austrailian band. No idea what goes on in Australia that prog is so big there, but I guess as long as they keep pumping out awesome music, I don't give a crap (emoji needed here). Weird for me with this band. I came across them back in like 2009. About 10 years ago, I just kind of forgot about them. And...apparently, unbeknownst to me, they blew up and got huge. Ended up on Eurovision. The singer, Danny is battling stage 4 cancer now. But, sounds like he's doing alright. Anyway...

I'm old school and Brand X was a favorite back in the days of old. But I guess this is more fusion than prog.

They definitely walked a fine line between prog and fusion. Great music regardless. Personally I feel the rock elements in their music separated them from the fusion bands of the time.

One thing I notice more these days is how the “prog” label is used very loosely. I’m not a huge fan of labels but they do serve a purpose for communication and discussion of bands we like or might like. In the early 80s through early 90s, many of today’s bands called “prog” would have been referred to as prog metal, or just metal with prog influences. Fates Warning, Watchtower, Cynic, Dream Theater, Etc. were rarely called “prog” bands by anyone I knew or met at shows or record shops. The classic prog influences were always noted but the people listening to Gentle Giant, PFM, Magma, Greenslade, etc were not the same people listening to prog metal bands. Just an observation from a longtime prog rock fan and occasional metal fan. Not saying it’s good or bad.
