What's your favorite Fender single coil pickup set ?

All of my guitars do that.

LOL. Yeah , your right. Mine too.

- I guess I meant the shoulder. Watch any video on the new Fender American professional stratocaster and see what they say about the neck. I like the modern C shape. This one sounds like it goes from a deep C to a deep D ?
..... not sure. I'd like to hear from someone who has checked one out.

Dunno. Fender says it's a slightly deeper version of their C neck. I looked at a couple of vids, and they echoed what Fender says, while throwing in some vague comments that brought no additional information.

Sorry, I have no direct experience with their deep C, so all I could do is regurgitate what others have said. And there's already too much of that on the Interwebs. :)

Thanks for all the help everyone.
The new PROFESSIONAL series look nice , but the neck shape is weird. Deep C , which is supposed to get THICKER as you move up the neck ?? So the neck gets wider and thicker towards the body. Sounds backwards to me......

Hi-Yes that's the Compound radius. Starts at 9 1/2" Radius and gradually gets to 14" Radius. I like that....Makes for ease of play and string bending in the upper fret area - for me anyway. Suhr also has a compound radius. There's starts at 10" radius and graduates to the same 14" radius.

BTW, I also do not have any experience with the deep C. My Tele Select Dual HBs had a compound radius neck but pretty sure it was the regular Fender C. My 06 USA Deluxe has regular C but no compound radius. Although I did have a local tech (great work)do a little fret job from the 12th fret up. Slightly changing the radius gradually - making it flatter almost to 12" radius to the end. I like it like that. Not the same a as a full compound radius neck of course.

I've had cheap Fenders and expensive Fenders...
I'm not a fan of any pickups they make- but the best thing i've ever heard in a strat is a DiMarzio AREA set
58/67/61

Best pickup tone I've ever heard from any pickup.

I've heard good things about the Area 67 in the middle position.

I think Keith Urban uses DiMarzio's in some of his Strats http://tonereport.com/blogs/rig-report/live-gear-spotlight-keith-urban/page/three

Injector / 67 / Injector setup like this one: http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/pre-wired/injector-strat-replacement-pickguard

I have a Kinman Traditional MK-III set on my strat and love them. I believe they offer a Gilmore Black Strat set of their Impersonator series but you would have to check their site. Kinmans are pricey but well worth it in my humble opinion.

I picked up a "diamond in the ruff" Squire by Fender for $229 (CDN) and popped these in there. I love these pickups, they quack, they sustain great and very low noise.

Lindy Fralin blues specials hybrid (poles are not as exaggerated - more level in the hybrid set) or the Vintage Hots. But it seems I am the only Fralin fan here. anyway, Most have a blender pot. Bridge Pup has a bass plate.......
I have Fralin blues specials (with the bass plate on the bridge pickup) on my primary strat. They're very good, and have a nice balanced vintage tone. I'm about to order a custom build, and @Admin M@ has *very nearly* convinced me to put a set of Kinmans in that guitar... he speaks glowingly of the pickups for tone, flexibility and noiselessness. Because I play in such a wide variety of environments on tour, I need noiseless pickups, but not at the expense of great tone. I do find my Fralins to be fantastic sounding, but they're true vintage-style single coil pickups. In about 1 of every 10 venues, I deal with noise from radio / lights / the kitchen's deep fryer / alien communications, and on even medium-gain patches, it's pretty noisy. The Kinmans, by all accounts, are the best of both worlds.

Late to the thread, but I'll put in a recommendation for the Kinman Woodstock Plus set, coupled with Kinman's K9 solderless harness. These pups are amazing in a 40th Anniv. Strat.

Old vid but features the Kinmans on a cover tune...

I don't play out much anymore. So mostly recording in home studio, they shine. When I did play out I used a variety of noiseless pups - even the original lace sensors for quite a while back in the day. But I agree about the noise with vinatge strat type pups.. I remember those noisy days. I had a clapton strat for quite a while...those were real nice for rock and blues...Never tried he Kinmans but I do hear good hings about them.

I picked up a Gilmour LOADED pickguard on amazon , with the same pickups that are in the fender Gilmour strat , with the colors to match my guitar. Seemed like the laziest way to get Gilmour tones.

Now , if the noise will be an issue..... ?
I have an AX8. I would think the AX8 should be able to possibly gate any noise ? I have no experience with a strat , so it'll be a new experience.

I have the Lindy Fralin Blues Specials in my Strat Plus, and like them quite a bit. A little more growl, but without losing the vintage sound capabilities. They've been in there for quite some time now. I've not used a Fralin-wound pickup that I haven't liked yet.

+1

I've been playing with EMG SA + SPC on my American Deluxe for about 20 years. They are great, but I've recently changed to Dimarzio Area 61 (bridge) 67 (Middle) and 58 (neck) and I am not switching back to the EMG's (unless I ever got another strat)

The EMG SA are great for instant good tone, no matter where you connect them (as 1poorplayer has said: "the laziest way to get GIlmour tones"). The Area's need a bit more work to be tamed, but that is easy with the Axe-FX

More about the EMG SA: http://www.gilmourish.com/?p=933

ps: I am also into Gilmour tones, and happy with the Dimarzio Area's
eg: I've never managed to get a punchy and creamy clean tone when playing the intro of Echoes with the EMG, but with the Dimarzio area 58 it is a pleasure for the ears.

Or perhaps it is the effect of the latest Axe-FX firmware... Who knows!
I need more Strats with more pickups!! :p
