What is your guitar whim right now?

This one should be here by Wednesday! I made the bad choice to sell one like it many years ago, and am setting that misstep right. Uniquely versatile sound, and excellent playability. Looking very forward to it.

UPDATE: The NF3 arrived, and is simply superior is every way. Beautiful, perfect finish, excellent fretboard and inlay work, smooth and snag-free fret work. The sound is unique to this guitar in my stable, and is both clear and articulate while being eminently musical. I am totally happy with this addition to the guitarsenal.

Few minutes ago this red porn popped into my Facebook feed and I thought "Yummy, yummy! I want to lick that!" :p

But the whim vanished when I followed the link and realized that the price of that Umeda UST-1-aldernico1 is only $220 🧐
“I really wanted this guitar, but it just wasn’t expensive enough.” That thinking has deprived many a guitarist of a wonderful guitar. Look at the rub-out on that thing!

Judging the reviews, it doesn't look like a bad guitar. Someone has even changed the bridge pickup for Suhr Aldrich and replaced the electronics.

I don't know where they are made. Umeda is the name of a district in Osaka, but all the search results point only to Thailand, so it may be a Thai brand.

I would grab one. I have several stray pickups inside a drawer that I would like to use. But with limited space at the 40 sqm condo and the wife's guitar-in/guitar-out rule, I have to be very selective

@Piing the Bacchus stuff is impressive. I toured the factory that makes them web I went to Japan and there's a lot of old school craftsmanship going on there.

I've also heard only good things about Bacchus.

Now they have a economic line "Universe Series", manufactured in China. Given the Bacchus reputation, and the Japanese quality control, I guess that they may be good guitars. The looks are impressive

$224

A Candy Red! $224. Similar price to the red Umeda at the OP.

This thing ticks almost every box:

  • ebony or rosewood compound radius fingerboard
  • medium - to - jumbo frets (radius is more important than fret size imo)
  • HSS with direct-mount EMG's a la Knopfler and Lukather
  • Floyd Rose (they just feel like home to me)
  • 22 frets (neck singles sound nicer when they're closer to the nut)

I am also dying for the following strat:

  • almost the same as above with the following exceptions:
  • traditional strat w/ pickguard; white EMG's and pickguard
  • shell pink body
  • ebony fingerboard
  • flamed maple neck
I am selling my American Pro II strat because of its 9.5" fingerboard radius, as well as the fact that I just prefer ebony and rosewood. It's a very bright instrument.

Forget what you wished yesterday, or what you think will be more convenient tomorrow. We all know GAS changes directions like the wind.

What would you like to grab right now?

Then I started browsing that store, and I found this Bachus Handmade Series that really grabbed my attention. This is my whim right now!

Or maybe the Tele?I I've never owned a Tele 🤓

I've never had real Tele (cheap Modern Player for while). I like the G&L AST, and I don't have anything with P90s, and their soapbars are deluxe man. Clean angelic chimes, to just filthy Stones..... so I'm feeling you on that T-Master (truthfully I love all the guitars you posted!) I know it's just GAS so I need to wait. Also want to get a Mexican Strat and put in SD Antiquities in neck and middle, and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. Get a solid block in it. I love the necks, and the big 'ole headstock is just the icing on the cake. I need to see if I can put a bridge on it with locking saddles....

This group is horrible on my finances, but I love it, don't stop.

I’ve only seen one of these in the wild so far and it was bought by a massive Dev fan as his first guitar ever. Talk about jumping in headfirst! Hopefully this isn’t his and he gave up already!
It's not. The one from that Reverb link is mine lol. Certainly not my first guitar haha. I yanked the listing cause even though there are other guitars I would like to fund, I can't part with it. It's a metal monster.

Understood.

I've just had an Anti-GAS revelation 😎

No luck at all trying to emulate a Tele with the humbuckers of my SuperStrats. But I have picked my Strat with EMG DG-20, plugged to the Axe-FX Preset 1 "59 Bassguy" Scene-1 and voila!! Instant match with the tones at the video from Thomann

For clean tones and funk at 3:08: Bridge pup. Vol=10, EXG=3, SPC8
For Warm Gritty Jazz/Blues at 6:06: Neck pup. Vol=10, EXG=6, SPC=8, Add Heartpedal. Drive=1, Level=3
For Blues at 10:08 Bridge pup. Vol=10, EXG=3, SPC=8, Crank up the drive at the Heartpedal

Replace the reverb for a more dense one. I've chosen Coliseum

Some tones are even more rich than the ones at the video. The highs have a very nice spark, and there is more depth at the lows. And the slightless change at the EXG/SPC controls brings you to very wide territories. Probably wider than with just a Tele

Stat EMG DG20.jpg

Anyway, don't tell that to my wife. I don't think it is an infallible Anti-GAS formula. Just GAS-Retardant :D

I'm really gassing for a schecter usa custom shop km7 pro and a usa nick johnston strat. Wenge necks are just so perfect

I agree with this whole heartedly. I have a Sun Valley Super Shredder Black Limba with a wedge neck, and it feels amazing. I feel spoiled for anything else.

What guitar is this? It looks gorgeous!

That’s a Vigier Excalibur. They have many different Excaliburs, so I’m not sure beyond that, but they’re a very cool and unique company. For one thing, they have no truss rod, and they’re known for having the most stable necks that don’t need adjustment; this also allows for crazily low action. They also do not use knife edges on trems; for their own synchronized trems and Floyds they remove they replace knife edges with ball bearings to avoid wear. They also have the Nautilus II system, allowing you to switch pickups via bluetooth MIDI.

This was made by a local luthier who is now out of business. Didn’t have the cash at the time and now I can’t get one. I scour Reverb to hope to find one someday.
