What are your backup plans if you accidentally drop a plectrum during a performance or solo?

I was playing at a corporate event in the southern part of northeast West Virginia, and I dropped my pick during a very important solo. The band's HR manager stormed onto the stage and fired me on the spot. Most embarrassing gig ever, and no corporate band will hire me because I'm now known in the industry as a "dropper". These days I'm just a solo busker at the train station, and I now have guitar picks duct taped to my mic stand, my amp, the front of my guitar, and all along my left forearm. True story.

The important thing is that you are okay. Help is available if you need it.

It's easy. I put the guitar in the stand and take my glasses out of the FM3 case to look for the pick. If I can't find the pick, I ask if anyone in the audience has one. If not, I take the scissors and sandpaper out of the case and look for a piece of plastic on stage that I can shape into a pick. If I don't succeed on the third try, I pack up and go home.

I've almost never dropped a pick when performing.

I've dropped a pick MANY times while kicking back on the couch with an acoustic. Fortunately, when I drop a pick then, I know exactly where to find it. (Inside the guitar!)

I'm about 50/50 fingers to pick anyway so I would just carry on until I could pick up the pick. Also, I keep several picks in the little change pocket of my jeans at all times. 😎

If I absolutely need the pick, I'll just pick it up and continue, and it has happened, but more often than not, I can make do just fine with my fingers. It sounds different, but hey, that's ok.

The picks that I use for a really important sound are those Herdim blue picks that the Edge uses- I play them backwards for the U2 kinda chime, but really, it's pretty good practice to just go for it with your fingers too. it forces different musical decisions, so it's all good.

Emergency backup plan? I know there are some guitar straps that let you embed plectrums into them. But if you don’t have such a strap? Any other alternatives? I’m sure missing a solo because one accidentally drops a plectrum could cost one their job?
USE YOUR FINGERS. If you never have you definitely should learn. Thumb and index finger is fine or even just your thumb.
You can do it, give it a try.
Some nice youtube videos on Mark Knoflers picking technique.

I've been using Fender Mojo Grips. Put them on any regular size pick.
Never drop a pick again.
Yeah I use to use the Monster stick-ons but they were discontinued? I use small strips of fie sand paper super glued to the back-just a small strip.
