Not doubting that that's what happened, but it's unusual.
Do you have a ground lift gizmo to see if it helps that sort of noise?

Exactly. Pretty quiet without the computer attached. I have a gizmo ordered that will hopefully fix the problem.

Has anyone tried the new iFi iDefender Max? I have the iFi iDefender+ and it works great but I need to buy a 2nd one and saw the new iFi iDefender Max for $20 more.

I was having a lot of USB noise prior to upgrading to a Mac Studio, so much that it made the gear almost unusable from a sonic perspective. I bought a dedicated USB hub to plug all of my external gear into and use a dedicated thunderbolt output from my Mac just for the USB hub. My system is now 100% quiet.

I wonder if a future version of the VP4 could have "extra" filtering on the usb lines, and if it was overdesigned in that way whether it would help.

The problem was solved with the use of the iDefender+ Ground Loop Breaker. It didn't even need an external USB power supply.
