SOLVED: Inbalance in levels and mismatched tone in IEMs

Hi!

Just got my FM9 a while back and loving the tones that I’m getting. The only thing I’ve noticed that I’m experiencing is that I’m using factory IRs, mainly the Bogner 4x12, and using the 57 and the 121 in their own slots. I’ve noticed that the levels are not quite even and can’t really get them sounding even in my in ears. Do you guys that mix 57s and 121s level them in a specific way, say one lower than the other? All the videos I’ve watched of people using these in this fashion don’t touch the levels at all. I notice the difference in the meters that they’re not consistently the same and it creates kind of an imbalance in my ears.

Maybe just not dialing them right!

Thanks in advance, glad to be a part of the Fractal ecosystem!

You are talking about the levels of the dry signal (no fx), with panned cabs? Yes the level can be or perceived different... what video are you for example refering to?

Yes! Not hard panning or anything, even just 25% to each side. Can’t remember any exact ones, I do remember watching a video of Brett Kingman dialing in some Bogner tones and he was using the same irs without adjusting any levels or anything. And I do notice that bypassing the cab block evens the levels out, so it’s somewhere in there!

A few sound people and myself have noticed this also when running stereo. I too usually run an ir using a 57 on one side and a121 on the other, a 3rd party ir. What we noticed was my on stage stereo frfr was not LR balanced and in the PA he had to adjust one side above the other. It did this with and without any FX added. Yes tried all different cable etc.

I haven’t had time to explore and trouble shoot it yet and compare my fm9 to my III.

IR's can vary in level. Some combinations might have to be fine tuned a bit.

Post the preset in question and we can check for any other issues that might be contributing.
Thank you kindly! Will upload the preset tomorrow, currently enjoying a cruise ship gig run and will be back to my computer tomorrow. The preset will have to do for now haha!

Here's the preset in question! Hope it clears at least a bit of the issue I'm trying to get across. And mind me, my preset might not be the best routed or anything, still learning. :D

IRs can vary in level in relation to each other but also, because they're EQ'ed differently (Ribbon vs 57) the perception of volume may need adjustment. Metering isn't that useful because an IR with more low end, for example, will meter stronger if you're palm muting a low E string power chord.

As always, use your ears if you find your stereo image "pulling" to one side.

I’m not the OP but had this issue also. I have checked the preset that I was using with the imbalance and interestingly it had the same ir in the right and the left so there should not have been an imbalance there. Not happening in my axefxiii iii but is happening on fm9. I will see if it’s happening on all presets or what later today .

Just for information, if anyone is experiencing similar issues, I did in fact solve the culprit. I had a friend download the preset and he managed to replicate it on his FM9 too. He solved it by just resetting the cab block and loading the IRs again. I did think it to be a computer error and just a bug then I started digging, and noticed that I had added a 15% of room level in the IR. By reducing the room to 0% I managed to get the levels even. Interesting. But yeah, hope it helps someone if anyone has similar situations at some point!

Oh wow, that could be my issue too, I will have to check, I know I added some room in the cab block in the preset for this gig.
