Rush… is it true?

I agree totally. But commercially that would attract less people. I even more agree on Yes. It’s a shame that that holds the Yes name. But from a commercial standpoint I understand.
Promoters know they’ll sell more tickets and management know they’ll get a better deal with the original name. Also the bigger the name, the bigger the venues. The band members will be told this. Some bands arguably do it for the money, which I don’t think is the case with Rush. IMHO they have a nice background story that feels honest.

I would not dare to book ”Lars Ulrich Band plays Metallica” for a stadium show. But would book Metallica, even without Kirk and Lars. Without James I’d have to think about it.

EDIT: also super happy for Janika. Must be a dream come true!

Looking closer, the tour image is pretty touching.

There are two birds (Alex and Geddy) close together on a wire, and a third bird (Neil) flying off. With a rusty green light signifying that it's time and that it's ok to move on.
Great observation/interpretation!!!

I've been wondering what what the significance of the tour promo pic. was all about. I was focusing on the light and never really thought about the birds.

All the world's indeed a stage,
And we are merely players,
Performers and portrayers,
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage.

I'm not overly concerned with that. It's just that it's not Rush without Neil. At least, to me.
I agree. I've seen rush so many times and Neil was just such a focus in the band. I've seen videos of Anika Nilles playing and yes she's great, but not the same kind of drummer as Neil. I think someone like Mike Portnoy or Danny Carey would be a better fit for a tribute to Neil.

Neil was a very introverted person. He didn't like fame. All his lyrics are deeply psychological. He was a humanist. His lyrics show how deeply educated he was. You can read that in Limelight or in Dreamline. Or in Free Will. He writes about existentialist freedom (Sartre sends his regards). In short, he was a quiet, introverted person with many thoughts that drove him.

I think Geddy and Alex also took into account a person's inner values in addition to their technical skills. And Anika fits in fantastically. Anika is a trained educator and has run a kindergarten, among other things.

No, Alex and Geddy don't want a famous replacement. The names you mentioned are also incredible drummers. But maybe—as I said—human chemistry is more important after all.

By the way, when the master of all masters—his excellence Jeff Beck—took Anika on tour, that says it all. Jeff would never have chosen Mike Pornoy. That would never have worked. And it would never have worked for RUSH either.

I think of this new tour the same way as a "new firmware".

Legacy is intact and all the history is written. Nothing will erase or change that.
No one has to "update" (go to concerts, watch online, whatever...), but it's really nice for those who are interested.
