Resolved - which is amp, which Axe&2502 and which Axe direct

Allrighty, I did similar clips over the past months/years, different guitars but all mahogany with vintage/hot Bare Knuckles.

So here is the same-ish clip,
-once Marshall VM 2266 through Heritage Cab/SM57,
-once Axe FX through VHT2502, Bogner 4x12 and SM57,
-once Axe FX direct.

What do you think of the 3? Can you guess which is which?

Clip A
Clip B
Clip C

Edit: I did the direct clip again using some of Javi's patches. This is it:

The solution is:




A: Axe direct
B: Marshall
C: Axe through VHT

Marshall has been gone for almost a year now.

So what's your guess?

Just listen on my laptop now, i will try tomorrow on another system with a better sound to find the key of the result.

A is the marshall b is direct C is the axe 2502

No idea but I like (B) the best.

I think B is direct and I like it the best out of the three as well.

Hmm, before I read all the replies, I was sure B was the real Marshall (and undecided between A and C which was direct). Goes to show...

I really like the way the big chord after the main riff blooms. And the loose-ness of the overall sound on clip A.

Clip C is kinda similar, but I like A better.

Clip B sounds too pristine & not "rough" enough. Too well behaved.

That said, each is completely different. A has waaay more treble bite than B. A and C sound kinda similar, but B could have been made to sound more like the others, IMO. Or maybe not, if B was the Marshall (which I seriously doubt).

Id say my favorite is A, although Im thinking the Axe-Fx is B (I know the Axe can get much rowdier than that recording - it seemed kinda dull & lifeless to me).

Other than thinking the Axe direct is clip B, I have no clue at all as to which is the Marshall & which is the Axe-Fx as a preamp.

One BIG question in my mind...Why didnt you use the same cab for the Marshall & the Axe-Fx/VHT (with the mic & position unchanged)? It would have made things much more consistant, I think. Especially since it seems you were going for the same type of tone.

Just my thoughts.

All right, I'll go against the popular grain here -- A is my pick for Axe-Fx...

they all sound vastly different I sorta liked A the best, B the least and guess C was the DI.

I'd Guess A is the Live Marshall, B is the Live AXE FX, and c the DI Axe.

From working with the Axe Fx for a while I know you could get the DI to sound the same as the real amp with a little EQ.

A is louder at first glance a little rowdier than the others but was that just to throw us off..


uggg. now i am not sure, either way this is a fun game to play.
