question about transferring patches from the II to the XL

i'm helping a friend of mine transfer some patches i made for him from his II to his new XL. many of the patches i made use global amp 1, but the XL doesn't have any global amps set up. the patches i made have no sound when loaded up on the XL. what's the proper method for dealing with this? reset the amp and then save? nothing we tried seemed to work...

Have you tried unlinking the global then exporting the preset?

He doesnt have his II any more. Sorry, should have mentioned that

not that I can think of. But you only do it for each global amp then assign them globally in the XL.
