Pullin out the Bass - your go to signal chain?

Gonna do a little recording today and pulled out the bass. It's been forever. This is a passive Jackson bass. I don't do fingers well so I play with pick. Lookin' for just straight up great rock tone. Nothing too fancy.

I usually roll my own and start with FAS Bass and go from there. The cabs are where I can get dialed into the mix.

I actually find the FAS amp blocks flexible and really sound good.

Btw, nice bass!

Hey I forgot ask when I first replied to this thread, What are the control on your bass? I'm guessing that there are 2 volume, 2 tone, and then...maybe a pickup balance control?

Or maybe master volume and tone, and 3 band EQ?

Edit: Wait... no need for tone control if you have EQ. And if it's totally passive then I'm back to my first thought.

My bad. It is actually both. I forgot it had active ha. but on the first volume its push/pull which defeats the active circuit. the 3 outer knobs is 3 band EQ (active only) and the toggle is for coil split. Its not a high end or anything. i picked it up few years ago totally unplanned but was in the market for a bass. I just liked how it felt and sounded. more than adequate for the few times I pull it out for a recording. Its a JS3Q

Try these, maybe you like them, I have both of them in my Axe FX III

There is more presets and when I search with "Ragdoll" I find these two I have but also Leon Todd some his presets.

I have also one preset "bassone" wk47_MF_Bassone.syx but can remember who's preset it is.

This is the way. Removing the low-end frequencies from the hi-pass DIRT path really helps those driven sounds to behave much, much better.
I use this fundamental approach for my live rig and it guarantees a consistent low end regardless of what else is happening in the hi-pass chain.
The full-range DI blend method works OK, but eventually found the filter/crossover method to be more effective. YMMV.

Way back when I played live I had a crossover in my rack and would send to different compressors and then to separate amp/cab for high and low. Highs only would get chorus etc when called for.

I do this all the time when recording too but a bit more complex signal path.

What type of rock tone are you looking for? More of a clean/subtle drive classic rock tone, something a bit more aggressive like scorpions or guns and roses? I’ve got some suggestions to throw out but would be good to know what you’re after.

For me, both.
