Potential Move to Germany! 🇩🇪

I am really appreciative of all this info!
We don’t know her pay yet (supposed to hear this coming week). We will have benefits like military base access as she is retiring next month, and the civilian job will give us SOFA status to escape many of the German taxes. Again, it’s overwhelming do research from here even with the amazing and helpful communities online like this one! I appreciate all your time and contributions

Lived in Germany for 11 years and miss it all the time.

Lived in Lauterecken, Rhineland-Pfalz and worked in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg (lotsa Autobahn time).

If you’re going to Stuttgart there is a TON of cool stuff there.

My wife is German, from Saarland

Holy S…, the Saarlanders are really everywhere 😂

It’s always the same: you can be anywhere in the world and someone from the tiny Saarland is always there, without exception, always.

Germany, South, South-West is a really good place to live. Infrastructure, public transportation and so on is Not the best, but in general more positives than negatives.

Well here we go again. Germany is happening! Still unsure of where, but stuff is getting packed out today.
What are your criteria where to live? Prices? Mountains or sea? Wheather? Schools? We germans could give you maybe a good advice. But you can also use a KI, haha!

I spent my childhood in Bavaria and it's beautiful there. But I recommend Saarland. Why?
Well, it's very rural (the northern part), rent is low, and the landscape is beautiful.

If you want, you can be in Paris in 1.5 hours by TGV with France itself directly bordering it.
You can reach Germany's most beautiful wine-growing region, the Mosel, in no time by car.
The Vorderpfalz region, with its incredibly friendly people and wine festivals, is right on your doorstep.
Luxembourg, Holland, and Belgium are all within easy reach by car.
There is a large American enclave in Ramstein and Kaiserslautern.

I don't know if you're eligible, but if you are, you can use the “Space-A” program at the military airport in Ramstein.

And my absolute favorite live music club is located there.
K-Town Irish House. 😀

The incredibly good G66 service is also located here.Mettlach_Saarschleife_78108911_c_Fotolia.webp

My parents are from Germany. I have an aunt and uncle and many cousins that live in Boblingen (there should be an umlout over the “o”), and other places in the south. My dad’s side is from northern Germany, a couple of hours east of Holland.

It isn’t far from Stutgart. (My mom was actually born in the Schloss Hallburg, near Volgach, when my grandfather was the vineyard administrator there!).

Can I join via Signal... Then I wouldn't run the risk of being deposed as a talentless hack and guitarist cosplayer... 😞

Mmhhh... Bratwurst...🤤

I cannot fathom why nobody here is championing northern Hesse! I mean, we got... um... there's, like, places and... roads that connect them! People. Aaaand... uh...

Hessentag! (Saw Jethro Tull there, oh so many years ago!) And Documenta every 4 years! It's still as relevant and influencial as ever! 🤥

I mean, if that doesn't entice you, I could really understand. :(
