So we can't know the answer yet, but curious what you guys think:

Which has more DSP?

FM3+VP4
or
FM9?

The FM3 can handle simple effects + versatile switching options and the VP4 can handle the bulk of the effects.

FM9 would be handling both.

So say we load the same preset into both scenarios, which will have more CPU left over?

@phillyred79
so if it costs 700, why get this and not a used FM3 where you ll have all the functionality of the VP4 plus way way more? What is the rational?
you can run more instances of the same FX on the VP4... If you wanted to run 2 different reverbs or 2 pitch shifters, etc. The FM3 only allows 1 of each block

I'm planning on building a pedalboard with the pile of dirt pedals I have laying around. I've been trying to decide if I want to get a mega delay or reverb like the Strymon or Meris offerings, or something like the Line 6 HX Stomp or Eventide H90. This will actually be perfect for covering my mod+delay+reverb needs. I hope it is <$600. >$700 and I'll be less interested, mainly due to the (presumed) limitation of four blocks. Is that four blocks per preset? Or four simultaneously used blocks within a preset?

After primarily using the Fender Tone Master Pro for the past year, it'll be hard to go back to not having a touchscreen. I also wish FAS would use the footswitches that double as knobs that the TMP has.

Looks awesome so far, can’t wait to get one! It will be very useful for my tube amps, and it will be also interesting to see/hear how it will work with NAM, Quad-Cortex and ToneX.

Hell, a lot of people pay for UAFX pedals which are all exactly the same hardware with different firmware installed. It's like buying an Xbox with a single game preloaded and that's all you get.
yup, I've been kind of mystified at how much those pedals have taken off considering this... there is a serious marketing machine at work right now between pedal makers and YouTube guitar channels. So many people are just constantly rebuying the latest thing instead of going for long term use tools... the UAFX pedals may sound good, but for Pete's sake, it's the same darn hardware, with just one amp model on it... and each one is $399?! I mean, C'mon... the gear market is so crazy for all the different options right now, and how much equipment horse trading is happening.
In 2012 I sold a bunch of stuff and picked up my Axe Fx, and I've never looked back. We get it all!

fair enough, but how many people need 2 reverbs+ 2 delays at the same time other than some occasional "ambient" passages?
I m really curious to see how this product will perform, same with the paid upgrades of Kemper

i am all in on this one! lacking a tube amp, i quickly got a dumble on reverb.
let's go!
i am selling my VP-4 waitinglist place no. 3(!!!) to the highest bidder.
the dumble itself sounds so good, don't need vp-4 it anymore.
bids start at "half a giraffe" bitcoin!

with only 4 blocks, it better cost like $400. Otherwise why anyone get this??? Get a used FM3 or an HX Effects. Both are way way more powerful.
Already called it at $399. Yes Fractal is king of the hill, but this is not a very powerful unit with limited functionality, so I doubt they'd be asking $600 or something ridiculous.
(Unless they want to commit brand suicide like Kemper and their new, pay2play model, sell this basic thing for cheap, then gouge everyone to unbrick it by purchasing the full featured firmware for more money, no way Fractal would do us like that, right?)

$399 and they'll sell a million of em.

People pay more than that for a single-effect Strymon pedal. I don't think $600 to $700 would be ridiculous for the VP4.

Has anyone who has seen the leaked manual seen if the device has the midi block that sends a midi command during a scene change?

I have the FM9. My dumb question here is does the VP4 offer any difference than doing effects only out 3 on the FM9? Trying to differentiate here.
