But the post you replied to was about the new product even though there was an FM3 in the picture (I assume for additional reference)...
he had a pic of the fm3 and 2 vh4 pedals. I think it was super clear i was refering to that. How m i supposed to know the weight of an unreleased product?

I love my Axe FX III and I use it a lot at home. But I've tried using it as my central effects platform for my guitar rig (which is centred around a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier amp and my 4x12 cab) and it just takes too long to get anything done. I don't want to have to add a laptop to the setup in order to control my effects.

I used the Helix as my effects platform from 2016 till 2022, because it was solid, dependable, and easy to program on the fly.

Thanks for your perspective. I am not trying to convince anyone that mine is the only way to look at the problem.

The thing is, Helix is easier to program because it has a small % of the programmability - right? Maybe the new Fractal on-device UI will change my mind, but I am guessing that it is still going to be more work to program a patch - because it can do soooo much more.

Where I am coming from is that I want the most programmability possible without having to be limited by an on-device UI that will always be a compromise. That's why I have bought each version of the Axe.

Sad pal... But hey, you got others to laugh at your MISLEADING comment-You know what I was referring to................

If you're going to keep goin' on about it, I'll quote your full post for the extra clarity it brings-

And that's great- I hope you get it. Great amp- Also a personal standpoint............Guess we will see.
Either way, some will be happy and that's cool!
I,m happy right now-But if fractal came out with anything that allowed me to avoid lugging an amp I would buy it. I would also buy the combo I have been talking about FXx plus FMx-one unit. Doesn't have to be huge. FX only unit I have no use for. But that is MY personal standpoint. Maybe we will all be happy! :)

This changes my original reply, considerably, which was-

Oh shit, I was under the impression Fractal made modelers for almost 2 decades doing exactly that, while having 3 current offerings that do that exact thing. Learn something new every day, I've clearly been using mine wrong.

With the additional insight of your full quote, I wish to change my reply to-

Oh poop, I was under the impression Fractal made modelers for almost 2 decades doing exactly that, while having 3 current offerings that do that exact thing. Learn something new every day, I've clearly been using mine wrong.

All good now?

Do we even know that this unit doesn’t have additional in/outs? For all we know, there could be additional jacks on the right side of the unit, similar to the HX Stomp.

Everything in this thread is speculative until we see the actual specs.

Nope, there are pics showing both sides and no additional jacks to be seen

What does it matter that I am "bound" to having a laptop in my studio - which is the only place I'd be making serious patch edits anyway? Outside of the studio, I certainly am not going to tweak more than a handful of parameters on the performance page. Are you?
Nothing's wrong with what you like.

But people developing products in this category are (correctly) innovating past your narrow use case.

I am not disagreeing with you, I am sincerely asking for perspectives promoting the importance of on-device UI because I'd like to understand better.

I am also pointing out the downsides of a higher prioritization of on-device UI. Not because I am saying any manufacturer should make their mitigation any priority. I am bemoaning the downstream impact of UI innovation: Limiting Core Function innovation when it is is too hard to for the on-device UI.
