Oh shit, I was under the impression Fractal made modelers for almost 2 decades doing exactly that, while having 3 current offerings that do that exact thing. Learn something new every day, I've clearly been using mine wrong.
Sad pal... But hey, you got others to laugh at your MISLEADING comment-You know what I was referring to................

Actively wanting to be bound to a computer interface is increasingly outdated and silly.

And it seems like digital modeling at large (including Cliff's upcoming device) disagrees with you.

What does it matter that I am "bound" to having a laptop in my studio - which is the only place I'd be making serious patch edits anyway? Outside of the studio, I certainly am not going to tweak more than a handful of parameters on the performance page. Are you?

I don't doubt that the youngsters have pushed the market towards inferior UI because they are all used to the crap UI on their phones and the only computer they know is a touchscreen chromebook from school.

I can't wait until this batch of young ones have old person eyes and you start begging for a UI on a 24" monitor. Too bad they will have lost the ability to use a mouse and keyboard by then :P

I hate all this effort into on-device UI. Any on-device UI will ALWAYS be inferior to a computer application. AxeEdit blows away any SW editor out there and a laptop computer can be had for a few $ or free. Hell, I have a stack of old laptops - anyone can have one for free if it makes them stop crying about touchscreens and footswitches that you can touch with your fingers (nasty!).

I have been in camp Fractal since the early days and I have NEVER used the front panel to create or change a patch - NEVER.
I have an HXFX and the only reason that I could use the on-device editor is because Helix has comparatively few capabilities compared to the Axe. Of course I never use the on-device UI there either because why would I want to get on my knees and fiddle around with buttons that have been pressed with the bottom of my shoes? Just to work on a tiny screen with a goofy UI (compared to a SW UI)?

This just doesn't resonate with me at all.

I never want to use a computer as a central part of my guitar rig, and I'm part of a team who builds drum software!!!

This also does not resonate with me.

I hear you and your opinion can't be wrong, but I just don't understand why you and others despise an objectively better UI that is close to free.

(and, again, my outside the studio guitar rig doesn't need a computer because I wouldn't be creating patches at a gig)

Well because a lot of the time the music my bands write starts off improvisational in nature, the same is true for the effects. The music is quite effects heavy, and I often have a need to come up with new sounds and signal processing chains on the fly.

I love my Axe FX III and I use it a lot at home. But I've tried using it as my central effects platform for my guitar rig (which is centred around a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier amp and my 4x12 cab) and it just takes too long to get anything done. I don't want to have to add a laptop to the setup in order to control my effects.

I used the Helix as my effects platform from 2016 till 2022, because it was solid, dependable, and easy to program on the fly.

The new Fractal "FX4" unit sounds like it will resolve a lot of those issues I had.

The onboard UI needs to be top notch for this stuff, IMHO.

Well I will use WHTEVER makes my life easier with my guitar rig-no bias, just efficiency... I like the idea of both an on device interface and a an app like Axe edit.

Had a huge fun with nano cortex and ToneX this week. Now I want a FAS small sexy device.
There’s something magic to get such good feel and sound from a small box. Like UAFX lion.

This is a fx unit only.
4cm is possible? Yes, so it could have drives to hit the front end of a real amp, plus reverbs, mods and delays. Maybe a looper? Probably.
And that's it.
4 switches but with the usual Fractal versatility are a great add to the pack but looking at the blurred picture I can see midi so if you add another 4 in line midi switch you have 8 switches to use and maybe more using for example a Morningstar Mc6 or better Mc8.
I hope this pedal has enough DSP to run at least 2 rev blocks and 2 delay blocks with a bunch of other stuff like drives, comps or something more exotic. Who knows?Soon we'll see.

I use my old Ax2 mk1 spdif'd to my 3-mk1 output to extend some patches by moving end of chain FX blocks to the Ax2. Problem is, the Ax2-mk1 only has X/Y channels, and only on a few FX, not to mention the FX are far behind in features compared to Ax3 - this "FX4?" might be the cat's meow to finally replace my Ax2. I would miss having the extra Ax2 FX loop though, unless Fractal have made the digital IO its own IO blocks instead of just an "OR digital" option on the standard IO blocks as in Ax3 - that would be cool to facilitate using the physical IO as an effects loop inside an FX unit🤪
