Cliff stated that the new unit's interface will be streamlined.

Surely that will upset the power users of this board that insists wanting interface improvements is for amateurs who should buy a helix instead.

I hate all this effort into on-device UI. Any on-device UI will ALWAYS be inferior to a computer application. AxeEdit blows away any SW editor out there and a laptop computer can be had for a few $ or free. Hell, I have a stack of old laptops - anyone can have one for free if it makes them stop crying about touchscreens and footswitches that you can touch with your fingers (nasty!).

I have been in camp Fractal since the early days and I have NEVER used the front panel to create or change a patch - NEVER.
I have an HXFX and the only reason that I could use the on-device editor is because Helix has comparatively few capabilities compared to the Axe. Of course I never use the on-device UI there either because why would I want to get on my knees and fiddle around with buttons that have been pressed with the bottom of my shoes? Just to work on a tiny screen with a goofy UI (compared to a SW UI)?

I dont know, editing the FM3 from the device is light years easier than the AX8. I did more front panel editing in the first few months, than I did in 5-6 years with the AX8

Actively wanting to be bound to a computer interface is increasingly outdated and silly.

And it seems like digital modeling at large (including Cliff's upcoming device) disagrees with you.

My ocd acting up.. WHY is that last patch cable on our right (his left) facing the opposite way as the other ones?!?!

I will just focus on that until the product is released.
Don’t think too much about it. It’s an expression pedal jack. Zoom in and you can see follow the cable. Andy also like to have an expression pedal on his delay mix instead of using channels to control it.

No FAS device "binds" you to a computer. Some may not want to have to put a floor device on a desk to be able to comfortably use it. Not all of us can get up and down like we once could.

For the same reason the other units exist:
  • different form factors
  • an fx only device costs about the same to build as a modeler
  • a modeler works fine as fx only, but a fx device cannot work as a modeler.
A modeller works "fine" as FX only... but yes, just FINE, not IDEAL.
The FX8 was IDEAL for effects only and had levels set automatically, paths arranged automatically...etc etc. So an updated version with Fractal's latest generation of effects will be awesome. (and I say "will be" because it should be clear by now that it is indeed an effects unit. Not sure why anyone is speculating beyond that anymore at this point, LOL)
