Let's see those FM3 rigs!

Anyone using zip ties to secure the fm3? I wonder if they could scratch the surface of the unit or remove the paint after a period of time.

Took a lot of programming but the fm3 replaced my old pedalboard with just one patch. Next month i will refine my sound through our loud rehearsal space.

Maybe an off topic question but I see way, whammy and volume with a multiplexer in your preset, so I’ve always been wondering why do people do it? Can’t you just have these blocks in series and bypass/engage them? Seems to have the same effect for me.

I only use 3 main scenes. The pitch block has more than one channel. I prefer to have just one FS for the 3 scenes and separate FS for effects.

Here's the "small" rig for rehearsals and small gigs/cover bands etc.
Signal goes in the JHS A/B either via the Sennheiser XSW wireless (which is also powered through a switch so as not to turn on when not needed) or the cable in the "B" input.
Then it goes in the Drop which then feeds the EV-2 which is only for volume. Then it goes in the FM3.
The Boss GM-800 is fed from the GK-5 pickup and sends its stereo out in the Input 2 of the FM3 and gets mixed as needed per-preset.
The Ampero pedal is multifunction expression also based on the preset.
The Airstep is also powered through a switch because the damn thing doesn't have overcharge protection for its battery. It is used for bluetooth to control the DAW in a laptop for backing tracks/clicktrack etc. It also feeds one midi out into the FM3 in case I need it but I haven't so far.
I am using almost always the setlist function and the ampero switch is set to song up/down.
Finally there are two cables from the FM3 out 2 hanging lose and they plug in a little behringer mixer which mixes my in ear mix in small venues when I'm not dragging my IEM rack along.

PS Ignore the Mission SP-1. It goes in the AxeFx

Bit dusty cause it has been out for some time not used due to summer pauses.

Simple and happy :)

FM3 screwed unto a Temple Audio Duo 17 with my wireless powered by a Fender Engine Room LV5. Picked up the Duo, Engine Room and IEC mod all for £120! IEC splitter under the board means one power cable into the side and everything good to go.

Room for an MXR Bass Synth pedal should I ever need that Synthy goodness...

How do you like the NUX wireless?

The battery in my old NUX B5(?) - which is several years old and has hundreds (if not thousands) of hours on it - is no longer holding a sufficient charge and I need a replacement.

Its good... To be fair I don't have a lot of experience with a range of wireless units though.

Battery life is good - I play in a Springsteen tribute and it can easily handle 3 hour sets plus soundchecks. But you can charge the transmitter without having to dock it if you wish which is useful. Range has never been an issue, we go walkabout in the audience regularly. Never had a dropout, the new firmware version apparently has some improvements here but I've not upgraded yet. Lots of features - in built DI, FX loop if you need that!.

One thing is that the transmitter is a small pack that mounts to the strap which is great but if you play more than one instrument in a set then changing instruments could be an issue. It's not like the Line 6 stuff thats basically a dongle that you can just remove from the jack socket and swap over

Would I buy again - yep...

Our guitarist has used the NUX C-5RC and really likes that as well if that helps.

These cheap wireless thingies have somewhat high latency, guess it doesn’t bother you?
Honestly - I've never noticed any latency with it ever. The B8 has a transmitting parameter that helps with that...

Edit: Actually, thinking about it - I did a Theatre show in Gothenburg and during soundcheck I went to the sound desk about 40 meters away and had some latency there. Sure I could have changed this parameter to help but I didn't! I have this parameter set to the middle. Wasn't much but I did notice.

It just adds up sometimes. Guitar wireless, IEMs, Fractal itself has some, then the mixer, too.

But yeah, probably not too big of a deal most of the time.

To me the biggest issue with this unit is size, I don’t really need a separate tuner, it takes pedalboard space, needs power etc, things get more complicated overall. And dongles on the other hand are tied to the headphone jack. So I can’t make up my mind about what I want after all. :)

If you’re 40 meters away from the mains, sound takes over 100 ms to reach you. That’s 100 ms of latency that you can’t dial out with any gear on earth. Going back to a wired connection won’t fix it, either.

Here’s my FM3 and my VP4 boards. I just recently finishing converting the fm3 board to the temple audio quick release plates. The FM3 is connected to both Randall RM100s. Using output 2 as an FX Loop. I have a JHS Switchback under the board. A JHS red switch switches between loop 1 and loop 2 which are each of the amps. I originally had the Nano cortex on the “second” fx loop but I bought the VP4 from a friend and now it is on that board. While I can use the preamps, a lot of time I just use the amp models in the fractal and use the return of the amps or just USB into studio one and practice with headphones.

I had the Headrush Prime before and I loved it (I am still in the beta testing team for it) but I wanted a smaller foot print… but ironically now I have the VP4 and the footprint is back to where it was before… it was short lived. lmao!
