I almost have tears in my eyes but my new Slash GB LP standard in November Burst has to go….

I tried to learn Hendrix this time at 2:30 am purple haze and I picked it up easily. Maybe I’m one of those guys who are most creative at 3 am. Anyone else? Insomnia sucks.

The Strat remains my main player for U2, Hendrix, and my own ambient creations.

I decided to keep my lovely 4.8k Slash LP to play another 8 of U2’s songs.

My set list in the works is now is 18 U2 songs, 7 Hendrix songs, and 10 original ambient compositions totally 35 tracks.

I’m relieved that both my Strat and LP still have a home. Of course the LP I’ll have to play sitting down because of my knee surgery and bad back.

A small sacrifice for a great guitar.

What happens if you use the strat on the 8 U2 LP songs? They don't stop being good parts to good songs, they just sound some different.

I'm not sure I understand your post, is this a gig related thing? If so and you want to continue to use a heavy guitar despite your condition perhaps look into a performance stand.

Personally, I prefer lightweight guitars and currently use a couple Strandbergs.

I tried to play Hendrix Purple Haze first 30 seconds yesterday but wasn't able to pick it up. I found I didn't grow up listening to Hendrix nor am I used to playing so many notes all over the fretboard. I'm used to the Edge's style of interconnected hand movements all over the neck of the guitar.

So I have decided to do what I do best and specialize in U2 covers and my own original ambient creations. The LP stays! Problem is I can't stand with it. So I'll either have to triple my leg and low back strength or only play it sitting down. But will venues hire a man that has to play the LP sitting down?
Robert Fripp made a career of sitting down on stage with an LP.

True but the 8 U2 songs were designed especially for the LP and sound weak on my strat. Besides I already made the investment in my LP a year or two ago so it's not like I'm dishing out more cash. It amazing how easily I spend $4k sometimes on bills that seems nonsensical , like car repairs and maintenance. Buy more guitars instead of cars.... guitars don't rust! :)

Venues and 99% of your audience will not care what model of guitar is sitting in your lap as long as your playing isn't sending the customers towards the exit door. If you're not in a band, gear forums are the only people who care about what kind of equipment you're playing through.

I sat down with my L5 in the big horns band i was in in high school. Band rocked it, L5 screamed, nobody said anything about me sitting. Then again, they didn't say anything about me being under age playing in bars either.

You can redo the sounds.

I always thought of The Edge playing on a Gibson Explorer vs a Les Paul for the songs that he didn't use a Strat.
Gibson Explorers are extremely lightweight but still sound fairly beefy.

One thing about my Slash GB LP. It ALWAYS stays in tune. Yeah I didn't need to tune it in 2 weeks of playing. It's still in tune playing everyday for an hour!

My Strat always goes out of tune. Maybe I should get rid of the strat and upgrade to a new one? The strat is a great guitar but mine is older and called a strat special and doesn't even have noiseless pups.

Instead of buying a Strat Pro Series 2 , thinking of buying these pups and getting them installed by Long and Mcquade:

The Explorer was the Edge's first guitar. The bottom line is nowadays the PUPS that come with it are heavy distortion and don't sound anything like the one he used on songs like Beautiful Day.

I will tell you this.... The Edge had his Explorer break down during a U2UV concert tour and he immediately switched to the LP. The sound was virtually identical.

I was told by Edo not to go out and buy an Explorer because these days a LP will get you 95% as close to the sound anyways.

We have no idea what else got changed in his rig to make the LP work for him though.

How much does it weigh?
2.5kg! Sorry forum was down. I love it that much I’m already getting another custom build. Can’t beat the piezo and the 13 pin too. Im a massive Slash fan , have a signed goldtop (2008?) but the Brian Moore’s and the virtuo are just too versatile.
My Brian Moore Custom Shop is very very light weight and screams!!!
Very versatile!!! Model C90P!View attachment 153851

That finish is near identical to one of mine!

BMs are some of the most under rated guitars out there but that’s good for my collection haha

The LP will also give you 95% more backaches, too. 🤠
The weight of it was the whole point of your thread.
Yes but many people in this thread stated if you’re great the venue’s producers won’t care if you need to sit down. Especially, since I’m not in a band.

Wait...you're not in a band? Why would you be playing standing up for substantial periods of time?

I get more neck and back pain sitting down 8 hrs a day than standing up. The human body was not designed for sitting.

Having said that the LP is a damn heavy 10 lb guitar. I always prefer standing up but the weight of the guitar will destroy my injured knee and back, and it will be only a matter of time until I'm crippled again.

I always loved playing standing up even in my studio. It just feels more natural and hurts my wrists and neck less.

These Fralins are quite good. I have them in my main Strat - 'high output' at the neck, and 'vintage' in the middle, along with a Planet Tone Clearvoyant HB (with a custom, hotter 14k wind) at the bridge....

Also, consider the PRS 245SE as a possibility for your LP sounds. Mine is the best sounding LP-style guitar I've found and it's fairly light. The bridge is an intonatable stop-tail and the guitar has massive, solid tone....

Don’t get hung up on that, the fact that Evans just happened to be playing a certain guitar when the track was recorded doesn’t lock you into mimicking his entire signal chain. He may have written those songs on an acoustic for all we know…

As far as not sounding “right” with your Strat, well, you’re running into a Fractal. There are at least a half dozen ways in the unit to fatten up the sound of your guitar. Use the amp block input EQ to boost the midrange and slice off some of the high end from the single coils. That’s the easiest way to do it. Or use one of the boost options in the amp block. Or drop an EQ block in front of the amp block. Tons of ways to fatten up single coils.
