AFIII Presets Fremen Presets masterthread (releases, updates etc.)

Third-party preset or preset pack for the Axe-Fx III
Hi everyone !
There are sales in my website for my birthday week : -25% with the code "Fremen59", for a minimum purchase of €25.

I'm also sharing with you Frank Steffen Mueller latest video, from the series where he reviews all the Axe-Fx III factory presets :

I want to thanks Frank for having me as a guest on this one :) that was for my preset "Fremen ODS GOT". For the first time, I used a green backdrop to be able to insert a different background. The pictures here are from the south east of Mauritius (where I live), I recorded that during a recent day at the beach and in Blue-Bay lagoon.

The backing track itself is from a jam in my studio :

I kept the drums and keyboards, and re-recorded the rhythm guitar (with a scene from the ODS GOT preset) and the bass for Frank's video

Awesome! Great bits on the show and with your mates!! Thanks for all you do for the community, a true treasure ;~))

Hello guys ! All my Axe-Fx III packs are now updated to firmware 28.04. This is mostly a bug fix : I noticed that even if I use the batch setter to fix the Cab Block Room level, in some presets, it didn't registered as intended. More than 99% of the presets were not affected, but I updated everything anyway - but also, the presets with a Peavey 5150 amp model.

Here's another version of Frank's video on my ODS GoT preset :

Hi guys ! All my packs that needed a 28.05 update just got it, for the relevant amp models (Soldano 88, Recto 2, Mesa MK IIC+, Mesa MK IV, Mesa Triaxis) :
4 of the Amp packs, + the Amp packs Sampler,
Fremen's Picks,
Rock & Metal vol 1 & 2,
Synth & Drones,
The Richard Hallebeek jazz-rock pack.

In case you missed it, I posted an unlisted video showing the procedure :

Major update for the Pink Floyd pack !

This is the biggest update to the presets to date :

- All presets were tweaked with two SSS Stratocasters (***) : one with the EMG DG20 kit as used by David Gilmour on PULSE, the other with a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 in bridge, as used by Gilmour on his famous Black Strat. No more humbuckers ! Although these presets still works perfectly with my HSS Tom Anderson guitar.

- The latest fuzz additions were the biggest motivating factor to me to revamp the sounds ! So, I changed my approach to the Gilmour sounds here, using only overdrive/fuzz pedals into clean amps (Hiwatt DR103 and Fender Twin Reverb models). At the beginning of the year, I went into a OD/fuzz pedals buying spree, and spent months experimenting with them (and capturing them with Tonex/Quad Cortex/Headrush Prime etc.). I then recreated my favorite sounds from these experiments with the Axe-Fx III drive models/clean amp platforms. I've always preferred using distorted amp than drive pedals for my distortion tones, so this was "new" for me !

- I also found the best online service to isolate guitar tracks (better than Moises, RipX or Lalala.ai) and used that on all Pink Floyd songs included here, to better isolate, then analyze, the original recordings. As usual, the sounds are a combination of studio and live recordings. Often, the live versions have more ambience (delay/reverb), and more gain. However, here, I use less gain than with the previous firmware versions - but you can still use the previous one if you like more gain for your leads.

- I also simplified most of the effects grids, for better compatibility with the FM3 versions. Since a few firmware versions, changing channels in an amp block is almost instant, so there were no real needs to use two amp blocks/two cab blocks etc.

(***) except "Run like hell", which should be played on a Telecaster.

The FM3 and FM9 versions are also available. All updates are free, of course !

Thibault, Thank you so much for this update! What is the online service that you are using now for isolating the tracks?

Thanks for the continued efforts! I will buy more of your packs as the funds become available!! You are a treasure ;~))

Not to derail the thread, but thanks for that recommendation. MVsep did a remarkably better job on my test case than RipX!
No problem with the derail ! Let me derail a little too... with a gaming movie, and some personal anecdotes :

Once upon a time... I was a gamer. Between 2001 and 2003, because I was discouraged/unmotivated by the state of music here, I had completely stopped playing guitar, and went to/organized lan parties with friends, here in Mauritius. If you're ever wondering where I got the "Fremen" nickname, that was simply my gaming alias (I also used "d3usxm4ch1n4" sometimes), inspired by Dune, of course. This video has some of my "frags" from that period, with friends (we were total amateurs, btw - we've all seen way better gaming movies). I just found those frag videos on an old DVD, it took me 20+ years to use them 🙂

The songs used for the soundtrack are from the solo album, TDR Project, I recorded in 1993 on a 8 tracks Tascam tape machine. I used MVsep to make stems from the stereo recording, which allowed me to somehow "remix" the album and treat the individual drums, guitars, and bass separately. I used an Alesis SR16 for the drums and an Art SGX2000 for the guitars, direct into the Tascam, so be kind ;) I still have the original 1/2 inch tapes of the album and sent them a few months ago to a friend in Switzerland to convert it into digital files, but those tapes are in very bad shape and needs a very complicated restoring process. I'm crossing fingers !

Trivia : the friend I frag the most in this video, H4d35, is the one I must thank for introducing me to the IR technology, back in 2004. One year before that, I had re-started playing guitar again, and recording an album of my band, Feedback. Using IRs, and quickly making my own, were essential for that album (finally released in 2009), but also for what would follow for me in the guitar world. After being a journalist/sub-editor for three decades, I became a full time professional presets programmer in 2018, and my IRs are absolutely essential for my work. So, a big thanks to H4d35 !

Thibault, there is an error in the User cab # for the Time v29 preset in your Pink Floyd pack.

It points to User 1 #514.. but I believe it should point to #14 (based on other Scenes in the same press..)

Sounds incredible BTW!

Au plaisir,
Joce

You are right, thanks for letting me know ! I was running some tests with other IRs, and forgot to revert back to IR 14. Thanks for your comments !

Btw guys, I wanted to ask you : for maximum compatibility with FM9 and specially FM3 versions, I didn't stack drive pedals in the release versions of these presets, but stacking drives is indeed even better. Updating presets when needed is already a tedious task, and with different Axe/FMx versions, that would be worse. What should I do ? :)

It would be awesome to have the stacking drives for me on AXE III

Maybe just do 1 version of the pack.. for the most powerful machine (Axe-Fx).. and it is the responsibility of the users to tweak individual presets if they want to use them on the FM3 or FM9?
