FM9 system noise

Do you have the FM9 plugged into a properly grounded outlet?

If the noise level doesn't change when you turn the front panel OUT knobs, then it's likely something post D/A converter in the analog output section.

I'd wager if it was external interference, the more sensitive input section would be picking it up more and running through the preset. Do you hear any normal guitar signal or effects through the unit along with the noise? If so, how loud is the noise relative to the guitar signal?

Has it always made that noise, or did it work normally and then just start doing that? I don't think it will make a difference, but you could always try and reset the system parameters from the Setup > Utilities menu in case it's some kind of weird issue there.
Thank you. I'll reset and give that a try. The noise is constant. Its probably been doing it since inception although I havent paid much attention to it.

I'm having the same thing on my FM9 MKII Turbo. A continuous, high-frequency whistling sound is heard between the screen and the power socket. My FM9 is near some monitors (Yamaha HS7) and my iMac. It's present even when the speakers are turned off.
That's the fan.

I think the problem was the mono jacks I'm using to the speaker and the mono converter to my headphones.

What kind of cables are you using? The 1/4" outputs are unbalanced Humbuster jacks, so you should be using either standard TS instrument cables or Humbuster cables. Also, what kind of mono converter are you using for headphones?

Just to check whether is could be a digital noise due to a ground loop.
Remove any unneccessary device other than your FM9, no guitar connected, connect FM9 it to your audio/amp system from OUT1:
  • try to change the cable
  • try to select/unselect rear GND switches
and see if anything changes.

Yes I can still hear the noise with the knobs turned all the way down. But I'm thinking its related to my mono jacks. I plugged in a different pair of headphones and its completely silent and clean... I think the problem was the mono jacks I'm using to the speaker and the mono converter to my headphones.
Why are you using a mono converter for headphones?
