FM9 Case?

Rabjen DJ Backpack made for DJ gear works great for walking on an airplane... fits an FM9, 4 expression pedals, cables, laptop, 6 plug power strip.

This was about $60 last year when I took it to Europe for 5 gigs, now it's about $70.

I just received a Ghostfire case and I really like the form factor so far. It is definitely not as strong as an ATA style case but it will get the job for my needs - I wouldn't really consider it a flight case. But it is quite convenient to just remove the top cover and I'm done unpacking.

I put dual lock on the 4x corners of the FM9, and it seems secure. I didn't remove the feet because the vent is on the bottom and I didn't want to cover that up.

I need to find extra foam though. The inner height of the case is around 4" until it reaches the foam, and the FM9 max height is 3.5", so it doesn't touch the foam at all. I want the foam lightly compressed against the FM9, just to help secure it in place in the event the case gets put upside down while transporting.

I plan on purchasing the DUO+ and sticking it in between the FM9 and volume pedal - but they aren't shipping right now due to tariff concerns or something.

Does anyone have any input on the type of foam to use?

I'm using this very flimsy case from a brand called stag. It's a always-on so the FM9 is always inside.
I've bolted everything trough the case so it's much stronger now but wondering how long it will last. At least is quite practical :D
The shure wireless is fed through the Faslink output + I've modded the Xotic pedal so it can serve as a normal volume pedal or expression.

I’m assuming you mean the power for the Shure wireless is fed through the Faslink out. Would you mind explaining how you do this?

It's been quite a while ago but I believe I managed to tap into the Faslink out using the XLR jack, then feed that into that little ENGL adapter and then to the shure

Be careful with the Ghost case. The handle came off while I was carrying it. Glad I was in the grass when it dropped to the ground.

I plan on putting an aluminum plate on the inside to reinforce it. Light use only. At this point I would not recommend it.

Remember that any vibration from rolling the case, or shock such as it getting banged around especially if it hits one of the ends, is going to be transferred directly to the FM9. The internal ribbon-cable connections in the FM9 can work their way loose because of that. A longer case would be better, something with at least 1" but preferably 1.5-2" on each end; 2" in every direction is what I'd use. Without that I'd open the FM9 and put some beads of hot glue on the ribbon connectors to keep them from coming loose.

I used to do milspec packaging of all sorts of equipment so I'm paranoid when I see electronics packaged without adequate cushioning. And, while we are protective of our gear, anyone who's helping load in or out probably won't be aware or nearly as protective. It wouldn't hurt to mark the case "FRAGILE ELECTRONICS".
It's good to know and remember that... With another device, I think an L6 X3 or XT (I don't remember exactly which one), the ribbon cable connecting the footswitch section to the motherboard came loose, and I had to open the device and reconnect it, applying thermal silicone as glue, because obviously the heat that the unit had reached at some point and the vibrations had caused the original one to come loose... I think I'm going to check my FM9 in the next few days... The Gator case for Helix is very sturdy, but I don't think the vibrations from when I sometimes carry it around are distributed to other places. Last Sunday, I noticed that the guitar input nut was half loose, so I tightened it... obviously, it must be the vibrations.

I’m sorry if this one was already mentioned, but I just got the Gator TSA 61 and it fits my needs perfectly.

It might be overkill for some, but here’s the deal. I use the Temple Audio Duo 34 board and got it with their soft gig bag, which I thought would be enough. Just played a gig and carrying it was a mess. It also doesn’t protect the gear well enough in my opinion.

I kept looking for a good solution, and found the Gator. It’s a keyboard case. Yes, it is way bigger than the board, but thanks to a clever organizer system, I can also put in the cables and some other accessories. Oh, and it has wheels, which is great. Built like a tank as well.

I can now carry the pedalboard and two guitars in an Enki case - all I need for a gig - at the same time. Hopefully my back will appreciate :)

Very nice storage solution! But isn't it too heavy?

It is heavy indeed. It was already on the heavy side with the soft gig bag though, so given the Gator has wheels, the additional weight doesn’t really bother me.

That is a really nice case. I like all the extra amenities that fit in there. The only expression pedal I use is one EV1, not the two EV2s you have. I like that I can put a bunch of cables and other guitar stuff in there as well.

I see there are a few pedals on the board! Could you explain how they're connected in the audio chain? I can clearly see the TC Electronic MIMIQ, but I can't quite make out the other two.

The pedalboard is intended to be used with Music Man JP/Majesty guitars. The guitar is connected with a TRS cable into the MXR TRS Split Tap. It splits my piezo/magnetic into two mono signals. The first one - magnetic pickups - goes directly to Instrument Input of the FM9, the second one - piezo - runs to the TC Bodyrez and then into IN2 L.

For the Mimiq, I run from OUT 3L to the pedals mono input, and then straight back to the FM9 IN3 with two TS jacks. I prefer to insert Mimiq before two hard-panned amp blocks. Sounds killer!

The TRS Split is cool, because it also accepts TS cables, so I can plug in "standard" guitars without messing with the connections.

Here's the post with more details about the rig: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/lets-see-those-fm9-rigs.176163/post-2648444

I probably posted the link to this a couple years ago when I came across it, but I finally ordered it Monday and it showed up today-

For $259, this thing is impressive. It's not a lightweight flight case, it's a legit one. It also comes with it's own pedalboard, which was part of the reason I purchased it as I can put my actual pedals on that board and depending on what I'm doing for a gig I'll have the case for both. There's wheels on the bottom so you can roll it behind you. Everything is high quality, handles, wheels, latches, etc.

The pedalboard is 32"x15"

My only gripe- After I bought it I realized they updated their website and the Amazon listing to state "Note- Case is only item included with purchase", despite not removing any verbiage about the pedalboard. I emailed Harmony Cases directly but they have yet to return my email, fortunately, it showed up with the board inside. I don't know if it was leftover stock or what, but they should certainly clarify that via the website and listing, since it shows the pedalboard in the pictures AND in 2 different descriptions, as where "Case is only item" only shows up once, at the very bottom.

Note- Awesome dog is not included.
I have that exact case.

Wow! That must have been insanely heavy!

This is my one (and only TBH) complaint about the FM9. I own a nice large gator pedal train and when I put the FM9 on it - no good. It leaves just enough space around the unit where nothing fits and it takes up the whole case. It's also too tall but I can smash the foam down to make it work. What were they thinking when it comes to dimensions?? I love Fractal and I literally have shouted from the rooftops about their products but I can't help but scratch my head over these dimensions... Shouldn't have to buy a Keyboard case for a modeler. Fractal should have released a pedalboard along with the unit. They would have made money because we all would have purchased one.
One other thing... I had a FC12 but sold it due to the space issue. C'mon Fractal!

The dimensions were available before you purchased...

Compared to the dimensions of the typical rig it replaces, it's incredibly small.
