Are new firmware updates typically released on Fridays so if not today would be at least another week and so on and so forth or could it come out any day in between, historically I mean how does that normally play out for those of you that’ve been around for years?

Lore.
It's been demystified awhile back...
Yes.

"Firmware Fridays" were a result (I believe) of users getting spoiled by the relatively fast refining of the FW in the earlier days of FAS. The updates came fairly rapidly and tended to be released on Friday. That has long gone out the window. This is just what I've surmised as I wasn't an early user of Fractal.

I just want the green channel of the Satch amp…. My “Satriani covers” preset feels like it’s missing a shoe…

Unpopular opinion: Gapless is not coming to the FM3.
But I hope fore sure they make it happen ..
I want less gap on my fm3 for sure, I have even re tweaked my main presets to save some cpu for the next update. 😅.

But as much as I want gapeless like the other units have, if it’s not possible my main wishes are updated algorithms.

Tone first!

Yes, gapless would fix a lot for me ...
  • I could relocate some things to avoid a full CPU
  • Smooth skips to interlude presets with trails
  • Smooth skips to next songs
  • I could ditch my scene controllers and use (finally) channels ... currently, I use all scene controllers and I'm very limited due to that

I have no insight but based on some of FAS comments I think it’s the reverb that is causing the biggest issue the spring type in particular

in the past, firmware was released when it was released.

at some point, it seemed that firmware was being released on a few fridays. this led to someone saying "firmware friday." for a while, firmware then continued to release whenever, and people kept clamoring for firmware friday. at some point, some fractal staff acknowledged the saying and sometimes firmware is released on friday.

so it seems we have a saying that sometimes is true, like it has in the past.

i think Friday is the worst day to release firmware, especially beta firmware. so many people think "Beta" means "official firmware release with no bugs" and immediately install it and then have issues, and then have their gig or whatever ruined. there are so many posts when firmware is released on a friday "omg gig this weekend do i chance it?" and subsequent posts of "i installed and it ruined my gig" "did you read the release notes" "no what are those, oh i didn't know ____ changed."

if it were released earlier in the week, say Monday, you'd have days to try it, find a potential problem, rollback and be ready for your gig.

for TESTING, Friday is great as we have a weekend to test things and report back. but for the general customer who just wants to install and go, maybe Monday works better as i mentioned above. there may not be any problem with the firmware, but the changes they didn't read about could require them to adjust things.

but the real thing here is if you have a ongoing or upcoming performance and are not confident with installing and rolling back, perhaps you should wait until you have time.

yes, new firmware is exciting. but there's an uncontrollable fervor about being FIRST! or installing it without reading what it actually does and having problems moments later, asking for help, being told to load your backup, not having a backup, and asking for the next firmware asap to fix what i can't undo.

especially if it's a BETA firmware - which means a test version that may have problems - consider if you have more than 5 minutes to try it out before your performance.

i want to append that in my experience, Cliff has always been that guy who's so excited about creating something cool he shares it immediately, asap. instead of waiting, planning on how much it can be sold for, he just gives it out to people with the gear. this excitement and constant improvement is why there is no release schedule. when it's done it's done and it's because there is no specific schedule, we get surprises often.

that generosity is what got me hooked on the company way back in the ultra days, and why i continue to help out today. how can i not try to give back when the creator gives so effortlessly.

Which I never understood. :D

Insightful and well put, on many levels.
