I struggle with this for a long time
I am a newbie, and have been setting up the fm3 with one of the celestian frfr speakers. I have been calibrating things using the bassman because it is so clean. I also had some unwanted low end distortion.

I found the cause for me to be that my p90 pickup poles were a part turn too high on the low strings. The p90s were actually distorting when i hit the strings hard. The fm3/frfr amplify that - it isn’t as noticeable through a tube amp or guitar speaker. After i adjusted the pickup pole heights i get the piano like clean sound i was looking for. I have to hit the strings pretty hard to get that pickup distortion now.

The flubby low end distortion is an accurate recreation of tweed circuits like the 59 Bassman and Tweed Deluxe. Listen to some gained up Neil Young stuff and you will hear that buzzy, fuzzy imploding amp sound. If you are looking for clean Fender sounds then amps like this with lower headroom are probably not the best choice. That character is certainly desirable in some people's minds, so you may find that it works for you, but if you want cleaner low end, I would look to the blackface models or higher headroom models like the Bandmaster. Another option is to turn the gain way down and decrease the input trim to get yourself more headroom. Bottom line though is that these models are responding the same way the real amps do, so the modeling is accurate.

#knowyourtubeampsinherentquirks! :)

I don't doubt the modelling, no sir. As many people said, "those plexies, man". However, there might be certain bugs/issue, because I hear the extra distortion with almost any amp. Probably not what OP meant, so maybe I was wrong to comment. As Cliff himself said, most likely I have issue after CAB block, either within FM3 or after it. I checked on a few audio interfaces and monitor pairs as well as a few headphones, and the issue is always reproduced. So I thought maybe OP has similar issue. I will check once 5.02 is released to see if the issue stays.

Just went from 5.00 to 5.02b.

Playing the heavy stuff, hooked up to the Matrix gt1000/Marshall 1960A, sounds and feels great.

Nice work!

I installed the new firmware! wow Fractal keeps surprising us! amazing detail on every amp! I have tested it thoroughly and did not find any bug so far with the new beta. sounds like an official release will be coming soon!

thank you to all the fractal team that keeps improving our units every day!

Fair enough. If your issues extend beyond the Tweed models, then there certainly may be an issue in the beta or with other blocks that you are using. Just clarifying for those who may not be familiar with vintage tweed-style amps. Particularly since this behavior is modeled much more accurately in the Cygnus firmware releases than it has been in the past. Many have taken that change in behavior as an error when actually it was an improvement on the accuracy of the behavior of those particular amps. Hope you're able to sort through your issues. There are many here that I'm sure would be happy to take a look at your presets if you post them to verify any issues or give you advice on how to achieve the tone you're looking for. Good luck!

Will this get rid of that low-end buzzy flubby distortion on some amp models like the Bassman? I get this even if the gain is way down.
What do you have the bass set too?
I’ve found that on some fenders you don’t even need the bass up past 1 on the dial

I love the sounds with the CNFB amp modeling, i’m writing new user presets,a lot of amps I skipped over before I’m lovin . Try the tremolo lux ,beautiful break up tone . Clean to mean and with a pedal ,scream 👍🏻🎸😎

So you have installed 5.02b1 and you’re still experiencing the problem?

So it does look like this bug is not getting fixed in 5.02: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm3-not-loading-starting-up.181540/#post-2240451

Is that correct?

It is still not a blocking issue, but a little bit concerning. It happens once or twice a week to me.
Can you explain how this happens “once or twice a week” when the first I’ve seen this problem mentioned is with 5.02b1 and it’s only been out for less than a week. I’m just trying to keep track of actual bugs vs. potential user error. I’m pretty familiar with the firmwares and the issues people have been having. I’ve noticed a slight longer pause before the progress screen appears with 5.02b1, but never had it hang. YET.

Haven't posted in a while but just wanted to say the update for the Virtual Capo/Pitch Block is great. Latency is lower and its consistent. Felt like before, the latency varied depending on the lower notes and how low the Virtual Capo is set. Now, no matter the setting, the latency is low and stable. Makes it feel more realistic. I tried my E standard guitar set to -2 to -8 and it sounded heavy as hell. Love it!

Huge thanks for chiming in :)

My only "query" is that when I load the exact same preset in FW 5.01 there is absolutely no "gating" / "blocking distortion ?!?!?

=> is there a specific deep-setting I can try to alter to reduce this "effect" in FW 5.02B1 ?

Many thanks,
Ben

@fremen reported something similar in the beta forum. @rglr will need to take a closer look at this.
