Potentially: "This firmware version includes major improvements to sound quality and performance. As a result, some presets now require more CPU."
i think i got it. it was the dispersion parameter which is not in the editor yet cause it hasnt been updated and it was maxed out. when i lower it the cpu usage drops dramatically. is the 0% value in this equivalent to how the plate reverbs were before the update i assume?

Yes, lowering Dispersion in the plate reverb will reduce CPU usage.
In spring reverbs, a lower Drip setting can lower CPU.
yes thank you. that was it. it was set to 100% by default. i dont know if it's supposed to be that high as the release notes say it exaggerates the effect after 20-25%

I didn't realize how much I use London Plate. Many of my presets are over the limit, even with a Turbo unit. I always had it on economy, but now have to lower density to 4 to get back under 80%.

it's the dispersion i think. check to see if it's on 100%. the default setting for some reason is that. on the axe fx it was 25%. it's a very cpu-heavy parameter and it's not on the editor yet. you gotta go on the device itself to lower it

Dispersion should be under the basic tab in the editor. It is on my fm9 editor at least for the london plate

I'm finding that just re-selecting the exact same reverb type can drop CPU by 20% + (including the plate types). I'll have to dig deeper to find out exactly what is changing, but it is very rare that I have changed any parameters in reverb other than time and density.

Looking forward to testing out the new presets.
Thanks Fractal team for the continued improvements to the FM3

@m_brown @Admin M@ can you please help me here, I'm confused by this:
If you are upgrading from a version older than 9.01 Beta 1, please follow the instructions in the Firmware Update guide PDF that is included to install the firmware and Dyna-Cabs. If you are updating from 9.00 beta 1 or higher, Dyna-Cabs do not need to be reinstalled.
Isn't 9.00 beta 1 is older than 9.01 beta 1? So the second line says you don't need to update DC - but the first line says you do?
I don't understand where this version falls and if I should update DC:

Yeah I see your point. The notes say the FM3 cab storage is maxed out so no new cabs. I think you're good on not installing cabs.

Maybe the default settings changed? I turned down density and dispersion as mentioned and cpu is about where it was prior to updating.

Edit, just checked on the Sun Plate and the density default appears to have been reduced to keep the cpu down. Still sounds good though.

Where is that mentioned? I'm not seeing it...
In the notes above the release notes in the PDF:

THIS VERSION INCLUDES SPECIAL CHANGES. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING NOTES BEFORE UPDATING

Make Backups

As always, use Fractal-Bot in FM3-Edit to back up your System and Presets prior to upgrading.

Preset CPU and Factory Presets
This firmware version includes major improvements to sound quality and performance. As a result, some presets now require more CPU. In particular, the Plate Reverb types use more CPU and can be reduced considerably by lowering the “Echo Density” parameter. Older Factory Presets may exceed 80% CPU usage, especially on the standard (non-Turbo) FM3. To address this, new Factory Presets have been created for firmware 10.0. These are not installed automatically and must be downloaded separately.

About DynaCabs
The DynaCabs storage section of the FM3 is currently at full capacity. As a result, the new 1x12 Scholz cab from the Axe-Fx III/FM9 has not been included in this release. However, the 1x12 Scholz is available as a Dyna Cab Pack, which can be loaded into Cab-Lab. You can then export your mix and send it into the FM3 as a User Cab. https://shop.fractalaudio.com/dynacab-pack-1x12-west-coast-classic/

If you import a preset from the Axe-Fx III or FM9 that uses this cab, be sure to check settings on the FM3.

Loaded up perfect !!! Thanks FAS !!!! time to noodle on....till the new factoty presets are released ? :) Cheers !
