Fender FR-12 compared to PXM-12. My experience so far.

Either that or you need to see an ear specialist! 😉
I appear to be losing frequencies as i age so that could be true.

So after screwing things back, I do have some hiss from the tweeter now 🤪. It is very minimal even to good ears and not enough to complain about it. Honestly didn’t notice this before… and was hunting for it.

I still think these are great.

I think they are great too.
Turn the cut knob all the way down and give a listen. It probably screams hiss like the others. I would be surprised if it did not with the original schematic.
Or it's a unicorn . Stuff happens.

I'm thinking of selling my FR-12. It sounds great, but EV PXM12-MP just works better for me as a guitar monitor and it’s taking up an annoying amount of room in my office. I think the FR-12 may be better for small venues where I need to use it to fill the room and run it off the back line, but I have zero dates like that on the books. If I ever have a show like that again, I’ll just run the PXM12-MP on a speaker pole behind me or just play through my EV Evolve 50 if it’s a bigger space.

Might be interested in the FR 12... How do the Evolve 50's sound?

The Evolve 50s sound great! They will fill up a big room and throw a long ways. We use 2 of them as FOH speakers for shows where we run sound. From a distance, I've found that the Evolves sound a lot better than the PXMs. The PXMs sound a lot better at closer distances.

Yeah cut was on zero already… at cut on 2 hiss is difficult to notice at all. At full volume (10 with no signal going in) hiss noticeable but expected/accepted until cut shuts off the tweeter. Between 9 and 10 vol there is a big delta in my unit.. with cut at zero. I’ll never run it at that volume.

In any case your mods look interesting in getting the fr12 to the next level. Cheers and thanks for all your efforts. Wish Fender had your insights from the beginning but big companies are what they are.

I got a pair of FR-10s in the past week for use at home. I'll have to say this is the most I have felt 'connected' while playing with a FRFR system. I realize the FR-10/12 may not be 100% flat or whatever, but that doesn't matter to me - the AITR type response is improved. It is what I had hoped to experience a few years ago when using a PowerCab, but I wasn't that happy with it and eventually sold it to go back to traditional guitar cabs.
