No unit SHOULD need to breathe, if it's designed correctly. Otherwise a 3U unit is actually a 4U or 5U unit, defeating the purpose and causing customers to buy larger racks and more equipment.
If a unit needs extra space, it is poorly designed, and I will die on this hill.

I’ve had a 1u power amp on top for months now and it’s been fine , there’s good “breathing” room behind the racks and around the axe fx all in a deep rack case

Note: In a 70 F room , 40-50% RH

Heat rises.?

Yes, but the FX3 has active/fan cooling so the heat rises AFTER the fan pushes it out of the case.

If other units will be damaged by heat then you can rearrange the order of units in the rack, or provide a separate cooling fan in the rack to make sure air is moving around those other units.
