DLM8-Last Test- Large hall-youtube

I almost cancelled my order because of that weird dip. A couple of guys who played them next to a few other notable FRFR loved them though so I didn't. Whatever that graph shows just ain't reality as far as I can tell. I tried flattening with EQ and it just sounded weird.

The guy yesterday, who didn't know squat about the EQ graph, just fell in love with the tone. Read what he said earlier in the thread.

Wow, that's a pretty impressive sound out of 2 x 8" speakers (from what i can tell from the clips)! I'm loving the small footprint too.

That's very cool. I'm so looking for a lightweight solution like this.
Zent - did you listen to some of the music you're really used to on these guys, just to compare to your idea of what flat speakers are supposed to sound like?
Just curious.

I just a/b'd them with my V6 studio monitors. I was pleased I wasn't missing anything. PS Full Compass has them for $599. They may not be CLR flat but they sound like I wish I did through FOH, which is different everywhere I play.

So tonight I played what used to be a Casino but is now some mega church. The room I played in used to be the concert place. Maybe it sat 1500 or so. This was a CR meeting so there were only about 150 people only.

The stage was big and pro. I used their monitor in between my two little DLM8s pointing back at me. The drummer and the bass guy were behind me to my right but they caught an earful. Not in a loud/blasting manner, just in that they heard all my frequencies like I was hearing them. They smiled frequently when I would hit an especially nice huge ass Axe II tone.

BTW, I had only heard the songs once 3 days ago. The charts had no lights. The fonts were 7.5 it seemed. My car had broken down in the parking lot next door to the casino 20 miles from my house when I got there. The leader had to come get me and my stuff.

We got one go through per song. I was all over the place but took notes. By showtime, I nailed it for the most part and the stage sound was just awesome. Especially hitting my face in stereo. These DLM thing have a very pleasant in your face thing about them.

A poster ( DLM8 owner) in this group (actually TGP) who PM'd me told me all of this but I had to hear it to believe it. The fact that they were 8s and have that bizarre frequency graph had me regretting before delivery. I feel no need for the 12s at this point. The size of the boxes and the huge volume and presence they put out are enough for me. They really do blow people's minds when they hear them.

Have you played bass through them? I want to get one of these for rehearsal with the GR-55. I used a synth pad last night set to an octave down from the guitar and the low E was almost non-existent with my boom box type thing I currently use.

What is Mackie's claim? 2000 watts? No way to verify that. I have read everything that exists on the internet about them. They are made in China. They were co-designed by EAW. They sound like big fat ass monitors and the dispersion is great. What else?

Powerpoint slides please!

I was at GC Seattle and did a short demo of the 8" and 12" DLM with some track music... no Axe FX.

I used Kings X, Black the sky and Cigaretts both tunes have quite a bit of dynamics with gobs of lows, hard hitting drums and of corse Mr Tabor. As suspected the 8" driver ran out of room when turned up and you could hear the volume pull back at the point of distortion. The 12" handled the lows much better and the clarity at gig volume sounded much better with this type of music. Guitar on it's own with nothing else running through the 8" would most likely have better results. When used to monitor other instruments Drums and Bass guitar the 8" will fall a bit short. I didn't have a lot of time to spend with it but thought I would add what I found when comparing the two with the same type of music running through them.
