I had a 200W version in the JCM800 family - eight 6550 tubes! ....

I had no idea these existed. Talk about overkill. I cannot even imagine how many small animals would die in it's path getting it to a 'sweet spot'.

The JCM800 sound is like coming home to me. Angry, nasty, in your face love. Surprisingly good cleans when you back off vol.
 
I had a JCM800 2210 back in the day and I LOVED it. Huge distortion and loud as hell.


Yes, I realize that the 2205’s and 2210’s aren’t considered “real” JCM800’s.
 
????? Old amps are all about power amp distortion. Plexis, Vox, Bassman, etc. get the majority of their glorious distortion from the power amp.
I was thinking about the fizz that power-amp distortion can bring, which tends to call attention to itself at less-than-gig volumes. I think "abrupt" might have been a better word than "nasty."
